Description Role Mission:
The Bus Driver is responsible for transporting students over scheduled routes to and from a variety of school sites and to assure the safety of the passengers riding the school bus. Employees in this classification receive general supervision within a framework of standard policies and procedures. This job class is responsible for ensuring the safety of all passengers including special education students while operating the assigned bus and for ensuring the assigned bus is always in a safe operating condition.

Responsibilities- Safely transports students on scheduled routes and field trips as assigned.
- Drive a school bus safely in accordance with time schedules; transport students to and from homes, school sites, and on field trips.
- Maintain order and proper discipline of passengers; address disputes, document and report severe disciplinary cases.
- Conduct daily safety and operational inspections of the assigned vehicle.
- Oversee loading and unloading of students, release to authorized individuals, and ensure safety belts are fastened in passenger vehicles.
- Maintain records and reports including mileage, routing, maintenance, and time schedules.
- Notify appropriate individuals of delays in scheduled routes.
- Ensure credentials (CDL, Medical Card, and Region One) are updated according to DOT and IDEA policy.
- Understand and take directions and feedback; communicate with campus managers effectively.
- Manage multiple tasks by prioritizing work and adapting to changing circumstances.
- Be available to work on evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or extended hours as needed; minimum 32 hours per week, excluding extracurricular activities.
- Education:
GED or High School Diploma - Experience:
Experience operating large passenger vehicles or an equivalent combination of experience and training; ability to manage student behavior - License or Certification:
Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with class P (passenger) and S (school bus) endorsements - Completed bus driver safety training course
- Must be over 21 years old
- Pass alcohol and drug tests
- DOT Physical Examination
- Safely transports students to and from homes and school sites, and on field trips as assigned
- Maintain order and proper discipline of passengers; resolve disputes and document serious disciplinary cases
- Conduct established safety and operational inspections of the assigned vehicle daily
- Understand basics of transporting students; oversee loading/unloading; ensure safety belts are fastened
- Maintain records including mileage, routing, maintenance, and time schedules
- Notify appropriate individuals of any delays in the route
- Ensure to maintain proper credentials (CDL, Medical Card, & Region One) updated per DOT and IDEA policy
- Communicate effectively with campus managers; accept feedback, and reflect on performance to improve operations
- Prioritize tasks and adapt to changing circumstances; handle multiple tasks within time constraints
- Available to work on evenings, weekends, holidays; maintain a schedule that may require extended hours to meet business needs
