Primary PurposeEnsure safe and orderly transportation of students on the assigned route. Operate a school bus that transports students and other authorized personnel to and from school or other designed location.
Qualifications Education/Certification- Valid Texas driver's license (class
B) (CDL)
- Must be 18 years of age
- Must clear the Department of Public Safety license check
- Ability to pass alcohol and drug test
- Ability to complete required bus driver safety training
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Knowledge of students discipline procedures
- Ability to manage student behavior
- Ability to operate bus
One year successful experience in driving
Major Responsibilities And Duties Vehicle Operation- Follow the assigned route and adhere to established schedules. Transport only authorized students.
- Drive bus to and from extracurricular activities. Exercise responsible leadership when on out of district school trips
- Check the bus for mechanical defects before and after each operation and notify the supervisor of needed repairs.
- Report all accidents, vehicle damage, student injuries, mechanical failures and complete required reports.
- Keep record on bus mileage, gas, and oil consumption, and number of passengers transported.
- Keep the assigned bus clean and fueled.
- Supervise students as they board and leave the bus and cross the street.
- Communicate with teachers and parents on a daily basis regarding student behavior while on the bus.
- Maintain discipline and report student discipline problems to appropriate administrators.
- Instruction students on safe riding rules and regulations.
- Observe all traffic laws, and safety regulations for school buses.
- Inspect the bus by checking fuel, oil, water, tires, lights, brakes, and steering to ensure the bus can be operated safely before driving.
- Ensure proper condition of emergency equipment, such as first aid kit, fire extinguisher, flags, fuses, crow bar and reflectors.
- Correct unsafe conditions in the work area that could cause an accident and inform the supervisor of any conditions that are not immediately correctable.
- Discharge students only at authorized stops.
- Report of hazardous conditions along scheduled routes.
- Operate cellular phone to communicate with transportation office.
- Work regular hours as needed.
- Attend and complete the required training program to maintain certification status.
- Enforce regulations against smoking and eating on the bus.
- Other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Working ConditionsMaintain emotional control; continual sitting, reaching and repetitive hand and arm motions, work outside and inside, moderate exposure to temperatures(hot) and vehicle fumes.
Terms of EmploymentSix month probation
Salary and work year to be established by the board and/or superintendent of schools.
EvaluationDirector of Support Services/Dispatcher will evaluate employees based on the performance of the job, education/training hours completed and teamwork performance.
