Our people have helped create the modern world and are working on more ground-breaking technologies and practices. Join the University of Edinburgh and you’ll be making a difference to everything around you. Since 2008, the College of Medicine & Veterinary Medicine (CMVM) at the University of Edinburgh has appointed some of the brightest academic minds to undertake a clinical PhD via the Wellcome-funded ECAT programme.
Building on the research training excellence developed over that period, and with a combination of external and institutional (CMVM) PhD funding, the ECAT programme continues to go from strength to strength. We now seek to fill up to three ECAT Clinical Lectureships as part of Public Services Delivery (PSD) Scotland’s doctoral SCREDS (Scottish Clinical Research Excellence Development) Scheme. Successful candidates will have access to cutting-edge infrastructure, large-scale data resources and a diverse supervisory pool of internationally competitive investigators.
This environment will support ambitious, curiosity-driven researchers, building upon established strengths in genetics, cell biology, in vivo model systems, human disease and health data science while enabling novel, interdisciplinary approaches to fundamental biological, technological and social mechanisms underpinning health and disease. Before beginning the three-year PhD project, 0.2 FTE funding is provided for a lead-in year when selection of supervisors and planning of the PhD project are optimised with the support of the programme directors.
Following the PhD, there is funding for continued academic activity and research training (0.2 FTE) and clinical practice (0.8 FTE) up to CCT + six months. Successful candidates will be expected to develop a competitive PhD fellowship application for institutional or external PhD funding.
