Auditor Accountant Trainee (One Year Grant Position)

The successful candidate for this position will be highly organized, detail-oriented, task focused, and adaptable to multiple systems and processes. The Auditor Accountant Trainee will learn, coordinate and perform multiple financial functions of the Cape May County Department of Health. They will assist the Business Manager in all financial functions as required.
Responsibilities- Maintain and update process documentation and internal controls for payroll operations to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Address payroll discrepancies and respond to employee inquiries promptly.
- Process biweekly payroll including preparing all timecards and maintaining accurate employee and payroll records such as comp and beeper balances.
- Learn to prepare quarterly grant expenditure reports, including salary and fringe benefit transfer forms.
- Develop understanding for purchasing process, including cost analysis, quote sourcing and entering requisitions.
- Assist in project accounting and perform other duties as assigned by management.
- General knowledge of payroll systems.
- Experience with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Experience with bookkeeping and accounting procedures related to payroll, AP, and AR processes.
- High proficiency in spreadsheet management and data indexing.
Applicants must meet one of the following or a combination of both experience and education. Thirty (30) semester hour credits are equal to one (1) year of relevant experience.
- Four (4) years of professional experience relevant to the position, including or supplemented by twenty‑one (21) semester hour credits in professional accounting courses which may include courses in municipal or government accounting.
- Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by twenty‑one (21) semester hour credits in professional accounting courses which may include courses in municipal or government accounting.
- Possession of a valid Certificate as a Certified Public Accountant or Registration as a Public Accountant issued by the New Jersey State Board of Accountancy.
"Professional experience" refers to work that is analytical, evaluative, and interpretive; requires a range of basic knowledge of the profession's concepts and practices; and is performed with the authority to act and make accurate and informed decisions.
LicenseAppointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
