Role Description The NICET Highway Construction Inspector is a full-time, on-site role based in New Jersey, United States. This role involves performing daily highway and roadway construction inspections, including monitoring site activities for compliance with project plans, specifications, and applicable codes. The inspector documents field conditions, materials used, and construction methods; prepares detailed inspection reports; and communicates findings to project managers, contractors, and client representatives.
Responsibilities include verifying asphalt placement and quality, observing traffic control and safety practices, and supporting quality control procedures across all phases of construction. The role also involves participating in project meetings, identifying potential issues early, and collaborating with the construction management team to support timely resolution and successful project delivery.
Qualifications
- Strong site inspection skills, including Site Inspections and general Inspection capabilities to assess highway construction activities and workmanship.
- Experience in Quality Control processes for construction projects, including material verification, documentation, and compliance review.
- Knowledge of Asphalt materials, placement techniques, and related highway construction standards and specifications.
- Background in Construction Management, including coordination with contractors, understanding project schedules, and supporting field oversight.
- NICET certification in Highway Construction Inspection (or eligibility/intent to obtain), and familiarity with state DOT standards and regulations.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for preparing clear reports and interacting with multidisciplinary teams.
- Commitment to safety practices and adherence to OSHA and relevant highway work zone safety requirements.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and on active construction sites.
- Relevant technical diploma or degree in civil engineering, construction technology, or a related field preferred; prior highway or transportation inspection experience is highly beneficial.
