Special Education Teacher, High School
St. Thomas Aquinas High School is seeking a passionate, faith-filled, and student-centered Theology Teacher to join our faculty for the upcoming school year. The ideal candidate will foster a classroom environment rooted in Catholic values while encouraging students to deepen their understanding of faith, morality, Scripture, Church teaching, and service to others.
Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to academic excellence, collaboration, innovation in instruction, and the mission of Catholic education. The successful applicant will inspire students through meaningful discussion, authentic witness, and a dedication to helping students grow spiritually, intellectually, and personally.
Responsibilities- Teach Theology courses at the high school level
- Develop engaging lesson plans aligned with diocesan and school curriculum standards
- Foster thoughtful discussion surrounding faith, ethics, Scripture, Catholic teachings, and social responsibility
- Encourage students to live out the values of faith, service, leadership, and compassion
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies and technology tools
- Monitor and communicate student progress effectively
- Maintain a positive and structured classroom environment
- Collaborate with faculty, Campus Ministry, counselors, and administration to support student success
- Participate in school liturgies, retreats, service initiatives, professional development, and school community activities
- Bachelor’s degree required; degree in Theology, Religious Studies, Catholic Studies, Education, or related field strongly preferred
- Practicing Catholic preferred
- Prior teaching or instructional experience is helpful but not required
- Strong communication, organizational, and classroom-management skills
- Ability to engage students of varying academic levels and backgrounds
- Commitment to the mission of Catholic education and the STA community
$41,000–$44,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
Background Check & Compliance RequirementsAll candidates must meet diocesan and state requirements for working in a Catholic school, including:
- Successful completion of a criminal background check
- Completion of Virtus/Protecting God’s Children training
- Submission of required employment and compliance documents, including I-9 forms, transcripts, and references
- Adherence to all school safety policies and guidelines
This is an in-person position mas Aquinas High School in Edison, New Jersey.
