St. Thomas Aquinas High School is seeking a passionate, knowledgeable, and student-centered Social Studies Teacher to join our faculty for the upcoming school year. The ideal candidate will foster a dynamic classroom environment that encourages critical thinking, civic engagement, historical understanding, and meaningful discussion.
Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to academic excellence, collaboration, innovation in instruction, and the mission of Catholic education. The successful applicant will inspire students through engaging lessons, strong communication, and a dedication to helping students better understand the world around them.
Responsibilities- Teach social studies courses at the high school level, including areas such as World History, United States History, Government, Civics, or related subjects
- Develop engaging lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards
- Encourage analytical thinking, discussion, research, and writing skills
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies and technology tools
- Monitor and communicate student progress effectively
- Maintain a positive and structured classroom environment
- Collaborate with faculty, counselors, and administration to support student success
- Participate in school activities, professional development, and school community initiatives
- Bachelor’s degree required; degree in History, Social Studies, Education, Political Science, or related field strongly preferred
- Prior teaching or instructional experience is helpful but not required
- Strong communication, organizational, and classroom-management skills
- Ability to convey concepts clearly and support students of varying academic levels
- Commitment to the mission of Catholic education and the STA community
$41,000–$44,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
Background Check & Compliance RequirementsAll candidates must meet diocesan and state requirements for working in a Catholic school, including:
- Successful completion of a criminal background check
- Completion of Virtus/Protecting God’s Children training
- Submission of required employment and compliance documents, including I-9 forms, transcripts, and references
- Adherence to all school safety policies and guidelines
This is an in-person position mas Aquinas High School in Edison, New Jersey.
