Description Position Overview
- Term: 6+ months

Edison, NJ - Pay: $45.00 per hour
- Hours:
Typically 8am – 5pm; may vary per project needs
Zones seeks a Service Engineer to perform fieldwork at customer sites, resolving and repairing server systems. This role supports post‑sales service, requiring technical aptitude with server products and excellent interpersonal skills.

- On‑site and remote troubleshooting of complex Supermicro equipment in an enterprise environment
- Drive customer satisfaction through service excellence, preventive maintenance, and efficient repair/parts cycle management
- Manage escalation situations quickly and professionally
- Provide 2nd line support to resellers and distributors
- Maintain high level of enterprise solution product knowledge
- Collaborate with Technical Account Manager, Service Manager, and Product Manager to define service programs
- Provide fault triage information and training materials
- Run tests and simulations at facility to assist with problem solving
- Travel to the field to train and resolve customer issues
- Train new service engineers
- Work under direction of Technical Account Manager and take ownership of customer base
- Be self‑sufficient in the field
- Defuse challenging situations
- Manage time effectively, prioritize, and make sound business decisions to meet service expectations
- Determine requirements and root causes of technical issues by working with customers
- Resolve problems by clarifying issues, researching alternatives, implementing solutions, and escalating unresolved problems
- Produce meaningful reports and metrics (a plus)
- Work flexible hours and/or shifts, including weekends and holidays if needed
- Travel required (75% or more)
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering (preferred)
- 5+ years of experience servicing complex x86 systems and parts
- Associate’s degree in electrical technology, electronics, or equivalent military experience considered
- Experience in large enterprise or certification in Windows and Linux environments (a plus)
- Break/fix experience and on‑site customer service experience (emphasized)
- Hands‑on experience with servers (Supermicro, EMC, Dell, HP)
- Strong hardware diagnostics skills and understanding of BIOS, drivers, and application loads
- Strong technical communication skills to lead investigations with multi‑discipline engineers
- Excellent written and verbal communication, project management, and time‑management skills
- Ability to participate in multiple cross‑functional projects concurrently in a rapidly changing environment within established timelines
- Excellent planning and follow‑up on planned actions
- Ability to work in a challenging, dynamic, and fast‑paced environment; solution‑oriented, team player, proactive in driving solutions
- Ability to work effectively in high‑pressure situations
- Full professional proficiency in English (read/write/speak)
- Punctual and detail‑oriented
- Familiarity with Linux is a plus
