Sr Mechanical Engineer PE (Data Center Design/Build) – Hybrid
Seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with 15+ years of experience in designing and implementing technology-focused architectural/engineering projects. Proficient in all work phases: condition assessment, design development, construction documents production, and construction administration. Experience includes Data Centers, Critical Infrastructure Buildings, Technology and Communication Facilities, E911, and other Emergency Management Facilities. Position available in our Midtown Manhattan office; projects and clients are nationwide.
Requirements:- Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET Accredited University
- 8–15 years of Mechanical (HVAC) Engineering & Design (Plumbing & Fire Protection experience is a plus)
- Licensed P.E. in NY or ability to gain reciprocity
- Strong understanding of all A/E disciplines and project coordination
- Experience with technically complex project types
- Ability to assume responsibility, interface and communicate with clients, architects, and other trades
- Present design options to the rest of the team, architects, and clients for evaluation
- Productively work and manage within a team environment on multiple design and construction projects
- Detail oriented – able to manage time and budget to meet project deliverables and schedules
- Field experience (understanding of construction principles, methods, and best practices)
- Proficient in AutoCAD MEP 3D, Navisworks, Bluebeam Revu, Procore, Prolog, and MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Revit MEP to prepare construction documents & sketches in a 3D environment – a plus
- Commissioning (Cx) experience – a plus
- LEED Certification and Green Building initiatives – preferred
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Lead project design and development from concept through construction; act as a senior technical mechanical engineer for the assigned projects; oversee, manage, and mentor mechanical engineering team members
- Identify value‑engineering and constructability options for projects designed in-house and those designed by outside consultants
- Perform studies to review and evaluate existing mechanical systems and provide solutions to address specific client goals including energy and performance improvements, equipment upgrades/replacements, and end‑of‑life evaluations considering costs, space, time, energy goals, and project timelines
- Conduct engineering calculations, load calculations, equipment selection, energy analysis, psychrometric, controls, fixture loading, pressure loss, duct sizing, and write specifications
- Attend and participate in design and construction meetings; prepare construction documents (drawings and specifications), addenda, bulletins, and transmittals
- Review and respond to RFIs, submittals, and other communications; issue responses to contractors; review and approve field design change requests
- Interface with project managers and field staff throughout the design and construction of projects
- Travel to project sites to conduct and collect data, complete field surveys, construction observations, and punch lists
- Fully versed in International, National, State and Local Codes, Rules, and Regulations, NYC Mechanical, Building, Energy Conservation, and Fire Protection codes, as well as NFPA, etc.
