Role Overview

The Pension Analyst at Hackensack Meridian Health is responsible for the coordination of all pension determinations, audits, and reporting obligations as well as administering the day‑to‑day administration of the Defined Benefit pension plan and Defined Contribution plan activity. This role communicates, partners, and collaborates with all Hackensack Meridian Health team members and vendors. The position is hybrid – primarily remote with occasional meetings at the network office.

Responsibilities
  • Work closely with actuary and record‑keepers in reconciling data related to changes in employment status, breaks in service, and name changes.
  • Conduct retirement counseling with prospective retirees and terminated vested employees eligible for pension benefits.
  • Review changes in federal legislation to ensure compliance; work closely with actuary, record‑keeper, and pension carriers to establish procedures.
  • Resolve discrepancies between defined contribution vendor and People Soft regarding eligibility and vesting status, performing refunds and other adjustments as necessary.
  • Notify pension carriers when to initiate, end, or modify pension benefit payments; initiate joint and survivorship death benefits; resolve any problems related to the payment of benefits.
  • Act as point‑person for pension and savings plan cases escalated by the Team Member Support Center, conduct research and analysis, and provide timely responses in accordance with established department guidelines.
  • Participate with audits from regulatory agencies and coordinate and ensure federal filings to the PBGC, Form 5500, and Summary Annual Report are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adhere to HMH organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications – Required
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years of defined benefit and defined contribution pension experience.
  • Demonstrated analytical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
  • Proficiency in federal filings for PBGC, Form 5500, and Summary Annual Report and Annual Funding Notice.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
Qualifications – Preferred
  • Prior healthcare experience.
  • CEBS certification in pension administration.
Compensation & Benefits

Minimum base salary of $83,782.40 annually. Compensation is benchmarked against market data and may vary based on experience, education, geographic location, internal equity, and budget considerations.
