Job Title:
Parasitology Technologist
We are seeking a skilled Microbiology Technologist - Parasitology to support a high‑quality clinical laboratory environment. This role focuses on the detection, cultivation, and identification of microorganisms, ova, and parasites from patient specimens to aid in accurate diagnosis and treatment. The ideal candidate brings strong hands‑on microscopy experience, knowledge of microbiology techniques, and a commitment to quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities- Review specimens for acceptability, proper labeling, container type, and source prior to testing
- Perform parasitology testing, including preparation, staining, and microscopic evaluation of specimens for ova and parasites
- Culture, isolate, and identify microorganisms using established laboratory procedures
- Prepare and document test results accurately in the laboratory information system (LIS)
- Maintain reagent integrity, including proper labeling, storage, and expiration tracking
- Perform routine equipment operation, cleaning, calibration, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting
- Run quality control procedures and monitor quality assurance indicators
- Follow all laboratory safety standards, infection control practices, and PPE requirements
- Support internal and external audits and inspections
- Communicate testing issues or delays to laboratory leadership promptly
- Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives and staff training as needed
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a related scientific field
- Meets CLIA personnel requirements for clinical laboratory testing
- ASCP certification (or equivalent) preferred
- State licensure where applicable
- Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in a clinical microbiology or parasitology laboratory
- Strong microscopy and organism identification skills
- Working knowledge of laboratory quality control, quality assurance, and safety standards
- Proficiency with laboratory computer systems and documentation practices
- Experience in a high‑volume clinical or reference laboratory
- Familiarity with regulatory environments (CLIA, CAP, OSHA)
- Experience supporting inspections and proficiency testing
