Job Description

Sr. Medical Laboratory Scientist – Edison, NJ – Monday to Friday, 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM, with rotational weekends.

Quest Diagnostics is hiring for a senior medical laboratory scientist at JFK Hospital. This hospital-based position pays between $33.00 and $54.45 per hour, with earnings based on experience, education, and certifications. Successful candidates may be eligible for an annual performance bonus.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate all characteristics of Med Tech I and II
  • Apply evidence‑based criteria to correlate and interpret laboratory testing data
  • Perform clinical validation to optimize laboratory testing as directed
  • Assume role as technical subject matter expert by problem‑solving and troubleshooting instrumentation and assays
  • Serve as a technical resource for the unit by investigating and resolving analytical testing problems, recommending a course of action when values exceed acceptable limits, and responding to non‑routine/complex inquiries from clients and sales representatives
  • Assume role of technical consultant and provide technical direction to team members regarding all matters of testing
  • Assume trainer and SME role in education; design and implement training material, evaluate technical competencies of team, and recommend continuing education
  • Proficient in understanding and interpreting trends and variables when implementing QC theory and policies
  • Review requests for validity checks and recommend appropriate action considering specimen limitations and timing/quality of additional or repeat testing
  • Expedite workflow to maximize productive capacity by evaluating production systems and recommending enhancements, coordinating resolution of production problems with other laboratory departments
  • Review unit activities to ensure compliance with departmental policies and federal, state, and local regulations
  • Competent in most areas within the department
  • Participate on special projects as assigned
  • Perform other duties as directed by Supervisor
Qualifications

Required

Work Experience:

Minimum of five to seven years clinical experience with two years in the present department.

Preferred

Work Experience:

Blood bank experience.

Physical and Mental Requirements:
Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.

Knowledge:
Foreign educated candidates must provide a detailed credential evaluation from IERF (International Education Research Foundation). United States educated candidates must provide a detailed original transcript.

  • Ability to establish work priorities for self and others and handle several procedures simultaneously, including troubleshooting instruments and other problems/issues
  • Ability to schedule and manage resources to meet department goals
  • Must protect patient confidentiality at all times

Education:

BS in Medical Technology (preferred), or BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology, or associate degree in a laboratory science or medical technology, or previously qualified as a technologist under 42 CFR 493.

ASCP Certified.
