Program SummaryCenter For Family Services is seeking an experienced and professional Peer Support Specialist for the Crisis Receiving Stabilization Center (CRSC). The CRSC is a 24‑hour psychiatric crisis center for adults experiencing a mental health crisis, providing a nurturing and supportive environment where consumers receive therapeutic interventions for up to 24 hours.
Duties and Responsibilities- Serve as a resource to other consumers and support persons (such as friends and family members identified by the consumer) on issues related to effective management of mental illness, including symptom reduction, relapse prevention, stress management, social skills, depression, anxiety, and healthy relationships.
- Use prior personal experiences with mental health services positively for consumers/families.
- Greet consumers upon entry into the stabilization center and assist them in acclimating to the environment.
- Provide supportive companionship to consumers.
- Apply a trauma‑informed care approach to consumer interactions.
- Actively listen to consumers and family members.
- Facilitate supportive group activities that promote recovery, wellness, coping skills, connection, and stabilization.
- Support the concept and philosophy of wellness and recovery.
- Provide consumers and support persons with information about behavioral health issues and available services.
- Help consumers and support persons understand the behavioral health systems in New Jersey.
- Complete all assigned paperwork accurately, neatly, and in a timely manner.
- Complete incident reports according to policy promptly and accurately.
- Communicate with other staff to promote quality consumer care.
- Participate in required staff trainings and meetings as scheduled.
- Participate in center and program performance‑improvement activities.
- Provide (using program vehicle) or arrange for transportation services for clients to ensure access to services as needed.
- Perform other duties within the scope of the position and in accordance with program policies, training, and regulatory requirements.
- Follow all company policies and procedures.
- Peer Specialist must have lived experience relevant to the population served and at least two years of recovery.
- Must hold certification as a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS), National Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist (NCPRSS), Certified Recovery Support Practitioner (CRSP), or another DMHAS‑approved Peer Specialist credential.
- Demonstration of positive decision‑making skills personally and professionally.
- Must have a current driver’s license and an excellent driving record with no violations in the past three years.
