About This Job: The First Vice President, Cyber Security is a hands‑on technical leader responsible for driving the execution of Axos Bank's information security strategy. This is a hybrid role that demands both deep technical work and building and leading a high‑performing team. You will architect solutions, write detection rules, troubleshoot platform issues, and drive strategic initiatives while developing your team's capability to operate independently.

This role requires bias for action, velocity, and comfort moving fluidly between technical execution and team leadership, and a willingness to commit beyond standard hours.

Ideal Candidate Profile: The ideal candidate thrives in fast‑paced environments, solves complex technical problems while building team capability, and operates with urgency and accountability. Comfortable writing Splunk queries, designing security architectures, coaching team members, and presenting to executives.

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of progressive information security experience, with at least 5 years in technical leadership roles where you built solutions while managing teams.
  • Hands‑on experience with security platforms (e.g., configuring Entra Conditional Access, writing Crowd Strike rules, investigating Azure identity issues).
  • History of driving large‑scale security platform migrations with personal technical involvement.
  • Deep expertise in SIEM/Splunk, EDR/XDR, Azure/Entra, and cloud security.
  • Strong understanding of AI/ML in security and autonomous capabilities.
  • Knowledge of banking compliance frameworks (FFIEC, GLBA, PCI DSS).
  • Ability to switch between deep technical work and strategic leadership, plan projects, and maintain velocity.
  • Commitment to crisis response and availability outside business hours.
Key Responsibilities Hands‑On Technical Execution & Engineering
  • Architect and implement security solutions including SIEM detections, automation workflows, and integration pipelines.
  • Troubleshoot complex technical issues across the security stack.
  • Write and tune detection rules, correlation searches, and AI‑powered investigation prompts.
  • Lead technical design sessions and proof‑of‑concept evaluations for new security capabilities.
  • Build automation and AI workflows to scale security operations.
Team Leadership & Development
  • Build and lead a high‑performing security team across US and international locations.
  • Coach team members through technical work, balancing execution and skill development.
  • Establish ownership and accountability while maintaining technical quality standards.
  • Lead hiring, onboarding, and performance management while staying technically engaged.
Strategic Program Execution
  • Drive the security technology roadmap including platform migrations, consolidations, and capability enhancements.
  • Develop detailed project plans with milestones and resource allocation.
  • Lead multiple concurrent strategic initiatives while maintaining velocity and quality.
  • Remove blockers and drive decisions quickly to maintain momentum.
Security Operations & Incident Response
  • Oversee 24/7 security operations and incident readiness.
  • Maintain availability for critical incidents outside standard business hours.
  • Drive continuous improvement of detection, response, and recovery capabilities.
  • Build autonomous SOC capabilities leveraging AI and automation.
Required Focus Areas
  • Incident response leadership: leading investigations, playbooks, tabletop exercises, and post‑incident analysis.
  • Microsoft Entra  / Azure Cloud Security: hands‑on experience with Azure AD, Conditional Access, PIM, and security services.
  • Zero‑Trust Architecture: designing and implementing zero‑trust frameworks.
Leadership Competencies
  • Ability to switch rapidly between deep technical work and strategic leadership conversations.
