Market Risk Technical Business Analyst – Market Risk & Investment Reporting

Position Overview

We are seeking a Mid-to-Senior Technical Business Analyst with strong Market Risk and Investment Reporting experience to support strategic initiatives within a Capital Markets environment. This role serves as the liaison between business stakeholders and technology teams, gathering requirements, analyzing data, and driving enhancements to market risk reporting and analytics. The ideal candidate will possess a solid understanding of market risk concepts, strong SQL skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with both business and technical teams.

This position requires someone who is analytical, detail-oriented, and comfortable working with large financial datasets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with Market Risk, Technology, and Business stakeholders to gather, analyze, and document business and technical requirements.
  • Support initiatives related to market risk reporting, investment reporting, and data analysis.
  • Analyze market risk metrics, including Value-at-Risk (VaR), risk limits, and interest rate exposure.
  • Write and troubleshoot complex SQL queries to validate data, perform reconciliations, and support reporting requirements.
  • Analyze large datasets to identify data quality issues, discrepancies, and process improvement opportunities.
  • Translate business requirements into functional specifications for development teams.
  • Collaborate with developers, QA, and business users throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Utilize advanced Excel to perform data analysis, reconciliations, reporting, and ad hoc requests.
  • Facilitate meetings, document requirements, and communicate project updates to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience as a Technical Business Analyst within Financial Services or Capital Markets.
  • Strong knowledge of Market Risk, including:
    • Risk limits
    • Interest rate risk
    • Market risk terminology and concepts
  • Experience supporting or analyzing Value-at-Risk (VaR) reporting and related risk metrics.
  • Background in Investment Reporting (portfolio or investment reporting preferred; compliance/KYC reporting is not required).
  • Strong SQL skills with the ability to write and understand:
    • Complex joins
    • Multi-table queries
    • Aggregations
    • Data validation and reconciliation
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, and complex formulas.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact confidently with business users, risk managers, and technology teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a Market Risk or Risk Technology organization.
  • Knowledge of Fixed Income, Equities, Derivatives, FX, or other Capital Markets products.
  • Experience working in Agile environments using Jira or similar tools.
  • Familiarity with data governance, data quality, or enterprise reporting initiatives.
  • Basic knowledge of Python for data analysis is a plus.
Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a technically strong Business Analyst who combines deep market risk knowledge with excellent SQL and data analysis skills. They are comfortable working with complex financial data, can communicate effectively across business and technology teams, and have experience supporting investment reporting and market risk initiatives in a fast-paced Capital Markets environment.
