- The Sourcing Specialist reporting to a manager of Strategic Sourcing will support sourcing of components and supplier relationship management for Ethicon.
- Assist customers with material and process selection for purchases, locating and selecting suppliers per category strategies, negotiating prices, developing and administering contracts for strategic suppliers, improving large‑spend category strategies, and supporting sites to deliver annual improvements in total cost, quality and service.
- Develop expertise in the business needs and capabilities for major spend categories or key business processes and keep up with supply‑market trends, supplier economics and best‑practice sourcing.
- Seek to improve supplier base capabilities or key business processes, report performance data for assigned categories or key business processes, and communicate, monitor, and manage compliance with the sourcing strategy or business process.
- Establish close working relationships with functions such as engineering, operations, marketing and quality to ensure full understanding and support of the strategic sourcing perspective, and track and manage supplier performance to address issues quickly.
- Identify sources of data for performance metrics, create processes to collect data, champion collection efforts, and lead internal and joint supplier teams to pursue cost‑reduction opportunities aligned with the sourcing strategy (e.g., lowering inventory levels, increasing yields, improving supplier operations).
- Contribute to continuous development of the sourcing knowledge base by implementing sourcing pockets of excellence, partner with stakeholders to address technical issues for components and processes, and ensure training and compliance with relevant company procedures.
- A bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in Logistics, Business Administration, Engineering, Supply Chain or Operations. An advanced degree is preferred. Six years of manufacturing experience is required.
- A Certified Purchasing Manager is preferred and experience with purchasing, materials or supply chain is desired.
- Effective knowledge in sourcing procedures, purchasing controls, supplier selection processes, supplier manufacturing processes, production systems and logistics, database management, quality systems, negotiation and contract law, statistical methods, and project management is preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and strong written, oral and presentation abilities are required, with the ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
