Summary:
The Senior Facilities Manager is responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, and compliance of critical facility systems and infrastructure in a regulated environment. This role ensures the reliability of temperature-controlled storage, manages facility projects, leads personnel, and upholds regulatory standards to support business operations and growth.
Responsibilities:
- Direct the operation and maintenance of facility systems, including ultra-low temperature freezers, cryogenic storage, cold rooms, and cleanroom environments.
- Develop and implement preventative maintenance and reliability programs for all critical assets and utilities, ensuring uninterrupted operations.
- Manage equipment lifecycle planning, including procurement, qualification, maintenance, and decommissioning, while maintaining asset management records.
- Oversee temperature monitoring and alarm management systems, ensuring prompt investigation and resolution of excursions and alarms.
- Lead and mentor facilities personnel and contractors, establishing performance expectations, training, and fostering a culture of safety and operational excellence.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to coordinate maintenance, support new service lines, and participate in strategic planning and facility expansion initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with FDA, cGMP, GDP, OSHA, ISO, and local regulations, supporting audits, inspections, and maintaining inspection readiness.
- Serve as a key member of the emergency response team, providing on-call support and leading investigations related to equipment or utility failures.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Life Sciences, or related technical field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
- 8+ years of facilities management experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, life sciences, healthcare, GMP warehousing, or cold chain environments.
- 5+ years of leadership experience managing technical teams.
- Demonstrated experience supporting FDA-regulated operations and managing temperature-controlled environments.
- Proven experience with cleanroom and laboratory facility operations.
- Proficiency with computers, electronic systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong working knowledge of HVAC, refrigeration, ultra-low temperature and cryogenic storage, building automation, electrical distribution, emergency power, environmental monitoring, calibration, validation, and preventative maintenance systems.
- Experience in biorepository, cell/gene therapy, biologics, or pharmaceutical storage operations preferred.
- Knowledge of ISO 8 cleanroom operations and environmental monitoring programs preferred.
- Experience managing facility expansions and capital projects preferred.
- Lean, Six Sigma, or reliability engineering certification preferred.
- Strong technical and operational decision-making, organizational, and project management skills.
- Ability to lead through growth and change, with effective communication and problem-solving abilities.
