CLASSIS MINISTER

Job Description:

The Classis Minister is an ordained minister and contracted to serve the Classis in a proactive and reactive manner, working with ministers, consistories, and congregations by building relationships and responding to the struggles/hardships of our ministers and congregations within the Classis of the Greater Palisades. This responsibility includes pastoral care and support, as well as conflict resolution when necessary, with the goal of encouraging vital ministries and the health of both church and leadership.

The Classis Minister will be expected to spend 16 hours per week on his/her duties.

• Provide pastoral care, encouragement, and mentoring to ministers and consistory lay leadership with a goal of building a sense of belonging and ensuring well‑being.
• Visit all classis consistories periodically to build rapport and trust and to maintain relationships.
• Help congregations identify challenges that they are facing as well as areas that need support, and then work towards resolutions or new directions as needed.
• Organize/facilitate training events to provide ministers with continuing education in tangible ideas, resources for lay leadership development and involvement, community outreach and engagement, and evangelism.
• Assist in the networking of churches and their congregations for fellowship, youth activities, and outreach projects.
• Establish/maintain means of communications (newsletters, chat groups, etc.) to share ideas, success stories, and resources.
• Report on all of the above to the Executive Committee as well as the Classis members at the stated session meetings.

• Classis Executive Committee – provide a monthly recap of activities
• Committees: communicate specific issues as they relate to the health and welfare of the congregations, lay leaders and ministers to the appropriate committees
