The Registered Nurse functions as a caregiver for a specific patient population in order to achieve desired outcomes. This position focuses on expanding knowledge and skills, provides effective direct care as part of the interdisciplinary team to a variety of complex patients. This position directs and oversees the care provided by other caregivers through delegation, validation, evaluation, and coordination. This position effectively coordinates patient care/unit activities among nursing peers, physicians and support services.
ResponsibilitiesA Registered Nurse at Hackensack Meridian Health delivers nursing practices according to the most up-to-date evidence-based research, nursing policies, and standards of care to provide and ensure safe and excellent delivery of individualized patient care. A day in the life of a Registered Nurse includes:
Assessment, Planning, Implementation and Evaluation.
- Assessment:
Collects comprehensive data pertinent to the patient s health or the situation; performs age- and disease-specific assessment/data collection; recognizes clinical and diagnostic status changes; identifies education needs based on age, disease, and cultural differences. - Plan:
Develops a plan of care with strategies and interventions; formulates patient/family centered goals/outcomes; coordinates a continuum of care. - Implementation:
Communicates, coordinates, and implements the plan of care; provides ongoing communication with patient/family and health care team; educates patient/family; documents events; adheres to protocols; ensures safe medication administration and transitions of care. - Evaluation:
Evaluates progress toward outcomes; uses critical thinking to achieve outcomes; initiates interventions in response to condition changes.
- Identifies ethical issues and brings them to the attention of the team.
- Responds to opportunities to enhance patient satisfaction.
- Maintains competencies and certifications to meet accreditation or licensing requirements.
- Supports organizational values and standards of behavior.
Education,
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- BSN in progress and/or willing to acquire within three (3) years of hire.
- Six (6) months or more of relevant nursing experience OR active participation in Hackensack Meridian Health s Nurse Residency Program.
- Ability to learn quickly, adapt to changing patient needs, strong accountability, teamwork, ongoing education, and patient-focused care.
Skills and Abilities
Preferred
- National Certification in area of specialty preferred when eligible.
- NJ State Professional Registered Nurse License.
- AHA Basic Health Care Life Support (BLS) Certification.
Minimum rate of $45.73 hourly. Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) is committed to pay equity and transparency for our team members.
