Overview

Advanced Practice Provider (Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner/Advanced Practice Registered Nurse) provides medical care in collaboration with and under the supervision of a physician in accordance with applicable state laws and regulations. This includes conducting patient assessments, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, establishing diagnoses, and prescribing medications. The APP practices with a high degree of clinical judgment and autonomy within the physician–APP collaborative relationship.

The role may provide services in primary care and specialty practice environments, including surgical and surgical subspecialties. Additional responsibilities may include education, research, and administrative functions.

• Conduct physical exams, assess health status, order and interpret tests, prescribe medications, and treat illnesses including giving injections and suturing wounds.
• Consult with physicians as needed and refer to physicians for more complicated medical cases or cases that are not a routine part of a PA’s scope of work.
• Monitor therapies and provide continuity of care.
• Triage patient calls and evaluate patient problems.
• Respond to emergencies including use of CPR.
• Counsel patient/family on preventive health care.
• Document patient information and care in the medical record and may maintain department statistical database for research purposes.

Bachelor’s degree and successful completion of an accredited physician assistant program.

Four years of health care experience prior to applying to the PA program, plus one year of experience as a PA, preferably in a clinic setting.

• Reasoning ability: ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Computer skills: thorough knowledge in computer information systems.

The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

This job operates in a professional office environment. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.

$118,000 – $145,000 annually. The compensation range reflects anticipated base pay for this position. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, education, clinical background, and work location.
