Staff Nurse Per Diem – UCHC Bayside State Prison (Multiple Vacancies)
Location: Bayside State Prison, Leesburg, NJ
University Correctional Health Care, part of Rutgers University, offers comprehensive health services to individuals in the criminal justice system. We seek a dedicated per‑diem staff nurse to provide ambulatory and acute care to inmates in a correctional environment.
Responsibilities- Provide direct and indirect nursing care to patients ranging from adolescents (13‑17) to adults (18‑64) and their families.
- Perform assessments in intake, sick care, emergency, chronic care, and infirmary settings.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals and security staff within the correctional environment.
- Identify inmate‑centered goals and implement nursing interventions accordingly.
- Plan nursing care based on assessments, make timely referrals, and initiate appropriate nursing care per institutional policies.
- As a team leader or charge nurse, delegate duties to team members and guide the provision of care.
Minimum Education and Experience
- Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
Certifications/Licenses
- License to practice in the State of New Jersey.
- Valid driver’s license and own vehicle or alternative transportation.
- CPR certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) or equivalent.
- At least one year of experience in a correctional setting.
Compensation: $59.01 per hour (non‑exempt).

Working Hours:
19 hours per week; standard hours 19.00; rotating shift.
Full onsite work arrangement required.
Physical demands: must be able to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes; lift and carry an emergency bag up to 45 pounds; assist in lifting patients up to 50 pounds.
Must be approved by the Department of Corrections and comply with all DOC requirements.
