The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing direct guest/resident care and supervision and oversight of the guest/resident care by the licensed and non‑licensed team members in the skilled nursing center. The RN is expected to lead and demonstrate Sunrise Senior Living’s Mission – "to champion the quality of life for all seniors" – in accordance with federal, state and local standards and Sunrise policies to promote the highest degree of quality care and services to our guests/residents.
ClinicalCare
- Assist with the development and leadership of Designated and Certified Nursing Assistants following the Resident Centered Care model.
- Assist with case management of both Medicare and non‑Medicare guests/residents as needed.
- Participate in Care Planning meetings.
- Assist with providing clinical care, including urinary cauterization, tube feedings, applying/changing dressings, Accu‑checks, medication management/administration, admission, transfer and discharge of guests/residents.
- Ensure interdisciplinary notes reflect the care provided through daily random audits.
- Complete timely and accurate documentation of guests/residents charts.
- Complete Incident Reports and report to the Director of Nursing Services (DNS).
- Review, update and document communication regarding residents to share pertinent resident and community information.
- Conduct visits/rounds with physicians as necessary and assigned by DNS.
- Research and document all incidents of abuse, neglect and misappropriation of funds as assigned by DNS or the Executive Director, Skilled Nursing Administrator.
- Participate actively in the Clinical IDT Meetings and in the Daily Prospective Payment System (PPS) meetings to obtain information on admissions and discharges for the day/week.
- Assist in monitoring medication records and administration.
- Demonstrate knowledge of key quality improvement areas including Skilled Nursing Transformation, Resident Centered Care Model, Sunrise and Federal Quality Indicators, and all applicable regulations.
- Monitor resident decline or improvement in condition and refer to restorative nursing as indicated.
- Assist in implementing, training and monitoring documentation related to clinical systems weekly.
- Consult with physicians as appropriate.
- Ensure resident changes, concerns and solutions are communicated to the Director of Nursing Services.
- Participate actively in federal, state and local surveys.
- Maintain knowledge of Restorative Practices of the Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) process.
- Understand and follow infection control practices.
- Provide training as needed to support infection control practices.
- Follow proper methods for disposing of blood‑borne pathogens, bodily fluids and hazardous materials in compliance with universal care precautions.
- Report occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials and hazardous chemicals immediately.
- Ensure oxygen tanks are stored safely, exchange guest/resident tanks when empty, and monitor levels.
- Transcribe physician orders accurately to eMAR (Medication Administration Record) promptly, including initials, date and time.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the Six Rights of Medication Pass.
- Provide leadership and follow Sunrise nursing standards when taking orders and administering medications.
- Ensure up‑to‑date guest/resident photos are present on eMAR.
- Respond to guest/resident and family, visitor requests in a timely and professional manner.
- Communicate with families regarding medical care and seek new methods to incorporate guest/resident requests into existing nursing standards.
