Position: Registered Nurse Med Surg (Part Time, Nights) Stratford, NJ

Summary

With a commitment to patient- and family-centered care, the professional nurse uses the nursing process in ways that values the uniqueness of each individual and addresses the physical, psychological, emotional, and social needs of the diversity of patients served by Jefferson Health. Develops nursing plans of care with the patient and their designated care partner(s) to effectively address the individualized needs and priorities of patients and are consistent with their cultural beliefs and values.

Job Duties
  • Interacts with co‑workers, patients, families or designated care partners, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson, integrating evidence‑based practice, clinical expertise, and patients’ preferences and cultural beliefs for delivery of optimal healthcare.
  • Partners with patients and their families or designated care partners in identifying learning needs and priorities, provides education in useful, understandable, and affirming ways, and minimizes risk of harm by following established nursing practices and protocols.
  • Uses information technology to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate error, and support ethical decision‑making; monitors outcomes of care processes and applies improvement methods to design and test changes that continuously enhance quality and safety.
  • Functions effectively within nursing and inter‑professional teams, fostering open communication, mutual respect, and shared decision‑making to achieve quality patient care and provide safe, compassionate, and coordinated care respectful of patients’ personal preferences and cultural values.
  • Creates an environment of belonging and inclusion, demonstrates problem‑solving and conflict‑resolution skills, seeks opportunities for continued professional growth, and acts as a primary preceptor for appropriate staff members.
  • Actively participates in hospital‑ and practice‑setting committees, including safety and quality improvement; gives and receives feedback and integrates appropriate changes into practice.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Specialized diploma graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Patient‑and‑family‑centered practice: knowledge of how to convey respect and collaborate with each patient, family, and/or designated care partner in care planning.
  • Cultural awareness: knowledge of people with diverse backgrounds and the ability to convey respect and connect effectively.
  • Effective communication: understanding of communication concepts, tools, and techniques, and ability to transmit, receive, and interpret ideas accurately; uses language of partnership and engages patients and families in their health care.
  • Patient assessment and care: knowledge and ability to assess ailments and injuries and implement a treatment plan.
  • Patient and designated care partner education: knowledge of child and adult education techniques; ability to elicit learning priorities and educate patients and their designated care partners on conditions, treatments, medications, and recovery steps.
  • Medication administration and prescription: knowledge of medications used to treat patients and ability to administer and prescribe drugs for continuing treatment outside of the hospital.
  • Discharge planning: knowledge of the patient’s post‑discharge needs and ability to partner with patient and family/designated care partners to develop a discharge plan and arrange follow‑up care.
  • Assessment and diagnosis: knowledge of tools and techniques for patient assessment, nursing diagnosis, and clinical judgment; ability to analyze symptoms and generate resolutions using available drugs, facilities, and techniques.
  • Health information documentation: knowledge of the relevance of health information systems for clinical documentation and quality improvement.
