University Correctional Health Care (UCHC), operating within Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, provides physical, mental, dental, and sex offender treatment services to individuals involved in the criminal justice system. UCHC serves a diverse population with a total budget of $150 million and approximately 1,000 staff.

Rutgers University Correctional Healthcare seeks a Per Diem Licensed Practical Nurse to serve at the Midstate Correctional Facility in Wrightstown, NJ. The primary role is to administer comprehensive patient care, following professional nursing standards, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Responsibilities include performing treatments, procedures, and maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment in a correctional setting.

• Participate in data collection related to patients’ status and needs.
• Provide input to the Registered Nurse for incorporation into the care plan.
• Deliver direct patient care within scope of practice to implement the plan.
• Educate patients and their families on health status and care plans.
• Assist patients and families in discharge preparation and home health maintenance.
• Document all aspects of patient care.

$29.00 per hour (non‑exempt). Salary may vary based on qualifications, experience, and funding availability.

Working Hours:

19 per week. Daily work shift: rotating. Work arrangement: full onsite.

• Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of New Jersey
• CPR Certification
• Valid driver’s license
• Must possess own vehicle or alternative means of transportation from one site to another

• At least six (6) months of experience in an acute hospital setting

Must be able to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes and assist in lifting and rotating patients who are unable to ambulate (up to 50 pounds).

Must be approved by the Department of Corrections (DOC) and adhere to all DOC requirements.
