Position Title

Environmental Air Scientist

Responsible for scheduled and time‑critical responses to site‑related environmental issues, including disaster/emergency response, environmental investigations, and remedial alternative analysis. Expected to have expertise in the calibration, maintenance, deployment, use, and data collection for handheld, portable, and transportable air sampling and monitoring devices. With senior level oversight, develop and implement sampling/monitoring and data collection plans. Experience in implementing multi‑media, multi‑matrix sampling techniques is required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Minimum of a B.S. degree and 5 years of recent and relevant experience with air sampling/monitoring protocols.
  • Knowledge of calibration, maintenance, deployment, use, and data collection of handheld, portable and transportable air sampling and monitoring devices.
  • Ability to develop and implement sampling/monitoring and data collection plans under senior level oversight.
  • Experience in implementing multi‑media, multi‑matrix sampling techniques.
  • Collecting samples for field screening and/or laboratory analysis of soil, groundwater, and surface water.
  • Responding to releases of oil and hazardous materials and providing assessment and contractor oversight services.
  • Assisting in environmental site assessments consistent with US EPA standards.
  • Providing oversight and sampling during the installation of soil boring and well monitoring.
  • Overseeing remedial excavation activities.
  • Installing and operating remediation systems and conducting in‑situ remediation.
  • Managing analytical data (tabulation, QA/QC and evaluation of data).
  • Preparing plans/maps/boring logs and assisting with writing technical reports, work plans, etc.
Preferred Skills
  • Knowledgeable in field instrumentation and the use of various air monitoring and multi‑media sampling instruments, including calibration, field implementation, and result interpretation.
  • Experience with Geoprobe sampling and various drilling methods including HSA, ARCH, mud rotary and multimedia sampling.
  • Familiarity with the Incident Command System (ICS) 100-800; completion of ICC courses is a plus.
  • 40‑hour HAZWOPER certification.
  • Ability to work in Levels C/B conditions.
Expected Outcomes
  • Readily available to respond at a moment’s notice and undertake periodic field assignments nationwide.
  • Calibrate and maintain a variety of multi‑media monitoring and sampling equipment.
  • Document field activities and prepare daily and final reports.
  • Conduct in‑field multi‑media sampling.
  • Write technical documents and plans proficiently.
  • Use level D‑A PPE to enter potentially hazardous areas.
Technical and Operational Scope
  • Exercise judgment on applicability of methods and approaches, determining best approaches when standard procedures are inadequate.
  • Determine best methods of data gathering, database management, and analysis to achieve goals.
  • Consult with outside specialists to obtain accurate and timely data while meeting project specifications and timetables.
  • Prepare reports on methods and procedures as part of overall project.
  • Maintain preparedness for immediate mobilization.
  • Produce high‑quality samples and sampling techniques yielding sound scientific data for evaluation reports to client satisfaction.
  • Deliver completed projects including draft and final reports within established budget and schedule.
  • Provide accurate identification of specimens and sound ecological assessment and evaluations.
