Mobile Diesel Technician II

Shift

7:00 am – 5:00 pm

Location

Edison, New Jersey

Duties
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections and follow‑up repairs on light, medium and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
  • Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various truck equipment including electrical, brake, cooling, starter/alternator, fan clutch, engine electronics, diesel steering, gas and diesel engines, manual and automatic transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment related to electrical, brake, cooling, starter/alternator, air conditioning, fan clutch, engine electronics, diesel steering, engines, transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
  • Road‑test vehicles to verify proper function.
  • Identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and use sound judgment to determine appropriate solutions.
  • Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on company‑issued service trucks, performing periodic reconciliation.
  • Maintain and operate company‑issued service vehicle, conducting safety checks and pre‑/post‑trip inspections.
  • Work with clients and customers to assess needs, provide assistance, and resolve issues.
  • Manage concurrent tasks, prioritizing work‑related activities and time allocations.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
  • Document work according to company standards, uploading pictures of work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders (RO) via company‑issued iOS device and TRAIT application.
  • Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely manner.
  • Work independently and manage own daily schedule.
  • Maintain a high level of productivity and adhere to Standard Repair Times.
  • Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as needed.
  • Communicate with management and support teams via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates and purchase order numbers.
  • Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health, and environmental policies, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
  • Maintain company‑issued service truck, conducting safety checks and daily pre/post‑trip inspections.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED with 3 years of related experience. Candidates with a higher degree or certification and/or 5+ years of experience are also considered.
  • At least 3 years of experience with refrigerated equipment.
  • Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary for job duties.
  • OEM training and certifications are preferred.
  • Complete all company‑required training.
  • Must successfully complete and pass a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment (or provide a valid DOT medical card with >4 months remaining).
  • Must be at least 21 years old and possess a valid state driver’s license, and be able to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
  • Must be a safe driver with a clean driving record.
