Bus Maintenance Technician (Contract-Hire)
This year-long contract role focuses on maintaining and repairing Volvo and Prevost buses, with a strong emphasis on mechanical diagnostics, seat installation and repair, and the use of OEM software to troubleshoot complex coach systems. You will apply your mechanical aptitude, tools, and hands-on experience to ensure buses operate safely, reliably, and efficiently.
Responsibilities- Perform maintenance and repair work on Volvo and Prevost buses over the duration of a year-long contract.
- Remove existing bus seats, install new seats, and repair or adjust current seating systems as required.
- Use OEM software and diagnostic platforms to troubleshoot complex coach systems and identify faults.
- Run diagnostic tests to identify issues in engines, electrical systems, air conditioning, steering, and braking systems.
- Repair and replace components in engines, electrical systems, air conditioning, steering, and braking systems based on diagnostic findings.
- Perform preventive maintenance tasks to keep buses in safe and reliable operating condition.
- Use hand tools and personal toolsets safely and effectively during all maintenance and repair activities.
- Document work performed and communicate any significant findings or issues to the appropriate personnel.
- Follow established maintenance procedures and safety guidelines while working on all coach systems.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude, particularly in vehicle or heavy equipment maintenance.
- Experience performing maintenance and repair on vehicles, buses, or similar mechanical systems.
- Proficiency using hand tools for mechanical and maintenance tasks.
- Ability to use OEM software and diagnostic platforms to troubleshoot complex coach systems.
- Capability to run diagnostic tests on engines, electrical systems, air conditioning, steering, and braking systems.
- Strong troubleshooting skills to identify, analyze, and resolve mechanical and electrical issues.
- Ability to perform preventive maintenance in accordance with established procedures.
- Possession of a personal set of tools suitable for bus or vehicle maintenance work.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience as a maintenance technician, maintenance engineer, or similar mechanical role.
- Background in repair and preventive maintenance of heavy vehicles, buses, or industrial equipment.
- Comfort working on multiple systems, including mechanical, electrical, HVAC, steering, and braking.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe, high-quality workmanship.

WorkEnvironment
This role is based in a bus maintenance facility where you will work directly on Volvo and Prevost coaches. You will use OEM software, diagnostic platforms, and a variety of hand tools and personal tools to perform your work. The environment involves hands-on mechanical tasks around large vehicles, with exposure to typical shop conditions such as noise, moving equipment, and varying temperatures.
Work hours and shifts may follow standard maintenance shop schedules and can include periods of standing, bending, and working in and around buses and their interior seating areas.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Edison, NJ.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $22.00 - $26.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
