Old Dominion Freight Line (ODFL) seeks a Dock Supervisor to oversee daily operations, ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency across our freight network. The role calls for a proactive leader who thrives in a fast‑paced environment and is dedicated to upholding OD’s standards since 1934.
Responsibilities- Monitor and evaluate employee safety on a daily basis.
- Evaluate and improve loading and unloading processes.
- Teach safe lifting techniques and supervise their application.
- Maintain housekeeping to ensure safety and productivity.
- Manage, assign, and supervise dock employees to ensure proper utilization of personnel and equipment.
- Create and manage dock work schedules and time‑off requests.
- Collaborate with Operations Manager / Assistant SVC Manager / Service Center Manager to align daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly objectives.
- Provide analysis, suggestions, and ideas for operational improvement.
- Deliver positive and constructive feedback on performance metrics such as ROI, MPH, stops per hour, return shipments, missed shipments, delivery/pick‑up errors, and overall productivity.
- Conduct disciplinary actions when necessary.
- Perform daily inspections to ensure compliance with local, state, federal, OSHA, and DOT regulations.
- Guarantee that 100% of trailers are loaded correctly for safe transport.
- Inspect trailers for cleanliness and proper loading/unloading techniques.
- Operate AS400, BLU, DYMS, and other internal freight monitoring systems.
- Complete forklift job training and operate forklift as required.
- Hold daily shift meetings and make quick, informed decisions based on volume levels.
- Inspect working conditions of tools and equipment and arrange corrections for unsafe or improper conditions.
- Interpret and enforce company and government regulations.
- Work assigned shifts as needed to meet customer pick‑up and delivery schedules.
- High School Diploma or equivalent; some college preferred;
Bachelor’s degree preferred. - At least 2years of operations experience, preferably in transportation.
- Previous supervisory experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of AS400, Microsoft Office, DYMS, and BLU systems.
- Knowledge of general DOT regulations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Salary range: $74,203 – $92,754.
Working Days & ShiftMonday– Friday. AM / PM shift, subject to change based on business needs.
