Position Overview

Under the general direction of the Counseling Center clinical staff, the case manager promotes holistic student wellness, by meeting students individually or in other forums (classrooms, division meetings, programming) and helping students gain awareness of and access to solutions to their barriers to academic success. This position requires a variety of skills involving case management, crisis intervention, triage, outreach, and consultation.

Case management may include linking with providers and maintaining lists of relevant referral sources, supporting treatment planning efforts, coordinating care needs, navigating on campus barriers and submission of documents (financial aid, emergency withdrawal, post-hospitalization success planning, accommodations with disability support), conducting follow-ups to ensure referral connection was made/care received and assist in removing barriers to care.

Hours per Week
  • Up to 25 hours per week, Monday-Friday.
  • This position may require evening/weekend responsibilities related to programming of the CCWB.
College/Department Overview

The Center for Counseling and Well-Being (CCWB) provides comprehensive support for student well-being and engages in a health promotion approach to prevention. The CCWB Counseling Center provides confidential services to help students resolve emotional difficulties, improve personal skills, overcome the effects of trauma or grief, decrease substance use and achieve their intellectual, personal and creative potential. The CCWB Case Management program assists students in identifying and accessing resources that promote well-being and academic success.

In addition to prevention programming, the CCWB Health Promotion program participates in Healthy Campus, Broncho Barkers, the Healthy Hooves Hut, and Peer Health Leadership.

Department Specific Job Functions
  • Conduct triage assessments with students who walk in or are scheduled with the Center for Counseling and Well-Being.
  • Facilitates client access to community resources, including locating recreational activities, housing, food, clothing, school programs, vocational opportunities or services, providers to teach life skills, and relevant mental health services; assists client to develop natural resources and make contact with social support networks.
  • In collaboration with the clinical team, develop, monitor, and evaluate treatment/care plans and progress.
  • Link students to campus and community resources.
  • Engage in follow-up and connection to referrals and resources.
  • Conduct skills coaching.
  • Conduct educational workshops on a variety of wellness topics.
  • Conduct programming which provides access to health care marketplace enrollment.
  • Document all client encounters and complete records/reports related to student services provided.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings hosted by the Center for Counseling and Well-Being.
Enrollment Requirements Fall/Spring Semesters

All student employees must be enrolled at least half-time to be eligible to work any UCO student position. Half-time enrollment for fall/spring semesters is considered 5 hours for graduates and 6 hours for undergraduates. International students must be enrolled full-time to be eligible to work as a student employee. Full-time enrollment is 9 credit hours for graduates and 12 credit hours for undergraduates.

Summer

Semester

Student employees working regular student positions must be enrolled in at least 3 credit hours to be eligible to work during the summer. Students not enrolled in summer classes must be enrolled in fall classes in order to work during the summer, but they (and the department) will be required to pay FICA taxes. Student employees working FWSP positions must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours (if undergraduate) or 5 credit hours (if graduate) in order to work during the summer in a Federal Work Study Program position.

Exception

If the number of credit hours needed to graduate is less than the minimum number of hours required for student employment, the student must obtain a letter from their Academic Advisor (stating the number of hours needed to graduate and anticipated graduation date) and submit it to Human Resources. This pertains to both regular and Federal Work Study Program positions. Contact jobs for more information.
