Position Overview

This is a Teaching Assistant (TA) position which will assist faculty members with classes and courses, as well as assist with research and instrument development/assessment. This position may also cover classes or proctor exams. This position is for the current semester only. Upon successful completion as a TA for the current semester, the student will be reconsidered for a subsequent semester(s).

Hours

per Week

Up to 20 hours per week, Monday-Friday.

The Department of Political Science offers students the opportunity to "shadow" city managers and receive firsthand, real-world experience in public administration.

Department Specific Job Functions
  • Cover classes or proctor exams.
  • Lecture in areas where the student is deemed competent.
  • Potentially tutor in classes which are in the student’s discipline.
  • Assist faculty with class preparation (i.e., library research, internet searches, and PowerPoint presentations).
  • Record keeping and supervised grading of exams and assignments.
  • Assist with group study sessions as needed.
  • Other duties/responsibilities as deemed necessary or required.
Enrollment Requirements
  • Students must be enrolled at least half-time to be eligible for any UCO student position.
  • Half-time enrollment for fall/spring semesters: 5 hours for graduates, 6 hours for undergraduates.
  • International students must be enrolled full-time.
  • Full-time enrollment: 9 credit hours for graduates, 12 credit hours for undergraduates.
Summer Semester

Student employees working regular student positions must be enrolled in at least 3 credit hours to be eligible to work during the summer.

Students not enrolled in summer classes must be enrolled in fall classes to work during the summer; however, they (and the department) will be required to pay FICA taxes.

Student employees working FWSP positions must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours (undergraduate) or 5 credit hours (graduate) for Federal Work Study Program positions.

Enrollment Exception

If the number of credit hours needed to graduate is less than the minimum number of hours required for student employment, the student must obtain a letter from their Academic Advisor (stating the number of hours needed to graduate and anticipated graduation date) and submit it to Human Resources. Qualifications/Experience Required

Must be enrolled as a graduate student in the MPA or MA-Political Science degree programs at the time of employment.
