Position Overview
Teaching Assistant (TA) position which will assist faculty members with classes and courses in the Kinesiology and Health Studies Department. The TA will also assist with research and instrument development/assessment and may cover classes or proctor exams.
Hours per WeekUp to 20 hours per week, maximum, during fall and spring semesters.
College/Department OverviewThe College of Education and Professional Studies currently has 100+ full‑time and over 100 part‑time faculty organized in seven departments. The college offers 23 undergraduate majors and 28 graduate majors. All teacher education programs are CAEP accredited. Other programs are recognized at the state and national levels with accreditations by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), the American Dietetic Association (ADA), the American Speech‑Language Hearing Association (ASHA), the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR), and the Oklahoma Educational Quality and Accountability Commission (OEQA).
UCO’s College of Education and Professional Studies has an enrollment of nearly 4,800 students, about one‑quarter of whom are graduate students. The Department of Kinesiology and Health Studies has 23 full‑time faculty in 4 undergraduate and 2 graduate programs – Physical Education, Exercise Fitness Management, Outdoor Community Recreation, Public Health, Athletic Training Education and Wellness Management.
Provide assistance in the Exercise Physiology Lab and related class work. Cover classes or proctor exams; lecture in areas where the student is deemed competent; possibly tutor in classes within the student’s discipline; assist faculty with class preparation (library research, internet searches, PowerPoint presentations), record keeping, supervised grading of exams and assignments; assist with group study sessions as needed; and other duties or responsibilities as deemed necessary or required.
EnrollmentRequirements
- Fall/Spring Semesters:
All student employees must be enrolled at least half‑time (5 credit hours for graduates, 6 for undergraduates). International students must be full‑time (9 credit hours for graduates, 12 for undergraduates). - Summer Semester:
Regular positions require at least 3 credit hours. Students not enrolled in summer classes must be enrolled in fall classes to work during the summer, though FICA taxes apply. FWSP positions require a minimum of 6 credit hours (undergraduate) or 5 (graduate). - Enrollment Exception:
If the number of credit hours needed to graduate is less than the minimum required for employment, the student must obtain a letter from their Academic Advisor stating the number of hours needed to graduate and anticipated graduation date and submit it to Human Resources.
