Position Overview
Visiting faculty are employed by the university to teach or perform research for a limited time. This is a non-tenure track, temporary position. Service or research may be expected. Teaches, advises, and mentors students, evaluates student performance, and maintains department and student records in accordance with university policies. Adheres to the educational philosophy of the university. Works in a collaborative manner with colleagues and professional peers.
Participates in university meetings that relate specifically to faculty. Serves on department, college, and university committees as requested. Prepares departmental reports as requested. Engages in teaching, service, and scholarly and/or creative activities as defined by the tenure and promotion policy in the UCO Employee and Faculty Handbook.
Specific Duties And Responsibilities
The Biology Department has a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education through transformative learning and research. The department is seeking a Visiting Assistant Professor in Biology who is committed to excellence in teaching and collaborative student-centered research. Primary areas of teaching responsibility include undergraduate and graduate physiology courses, majors and nonmajors introductory biology courses, and other courses as needed. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in aquatic systems.
Duties include teaching day/evening undergraduate and graduate Biology courses, scholarly activities, and service to the department, college, and university appropriate to rank and appointment.
Ph.D. in Biology or related field required. Demonstrable oral and written communication skills required. Experience teaching and directing research at the undergraduate level preferred.
Experience/education PreferredExperience teaching Biology courses at the undergraduate level.
Knowledge/Skills/AbilitiesAbility to work collaboratively with other faculty and staff. Reports to the Chair of the Department and the Dean of the College.
