General ScheduleThis position is up to 10 hours a week between 9am - 4pm Monday - Wednesday.
Note:
This is a temporary, part-time position from June 1 - July 16, 2026.
Upward Bound Math Science Instructors are responsible for providing in-person instruction to college-bound high school students in specific topics/content areas during the on-campus six-week summer session (M-W June 1 – July 16, 2026). Currently seeking instructors for the following subjects:
Foreign Language, Math, Science, Composition, English Literature, and Reading. The instructor will develop curriculum materials and implement a course of instruction in the specialty area which provides students with the opportunity to enhance their academic skills necessary to successfully complete high school, matriculate through a post-secondary institution and graduate. Orientation will be June 1 & June 2 with the University and the UBMS program.
Specific Essential Job Functions
- Prepare a syllabus, curriculum, activities/assignments, and assessments for subject areas.
- Prepare for and meet classes as assigned and maintain a safe learning environment.
- Participate in-service training sessions as scheduled.
- Evaluate and prepare reports of ongoing student progress.
- Complete student assessment forms.
- Request and assist in maintaining department equipment, supplies, and materials.
- Adhere to established safety and health procedures and practices to provide injury and illness prevention for self and others.
- Participate in the end-of-program achievement awards reception.
- Assume other duties as requested by the supervisor.
This position is an entry-level professional position, with actions that may have a measurable impact on operations within a work group. Routinely answers questions and provides information and data requested by individuals within or outside of the work area. Questions that require interpretation or are not easily resolved are referred to the supervisor in a timely manner. Demonstrates ability to execute tasks according to standard operating procedures and/or direction.
Demonstrates ability to learn new subject matter, coupled with attention to detail and responsiveness to feedback. Performs a variety of duties following established policies and procedures. Resolves problems by selecting from appropriate alternatives based on past practices, established procedures, or direction. Relies on direct supervision when available to set priorities and objectives, and to assist in problem resolution. May provide input into budget development by assisting with identification of operational needs and requirements.
Primarily responsible for executing routine procedures with direction from senior staff. Generally, reports to a manager or higher but may receive basic operational direction and guidance from senior level staff members.
Completion of a bachelor’s degree in education or subject area, and at least one (1) year of teaching experience at the high-school level or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Qualifications / Experience Preferred- Previous TRIO experience.
- Knowledge of best practices in teaching.
- Ability to develop and deliver engaging lesson plans to high-school students preparing for college.
- Experience with inquiry-based, hands-on learning experiences.
- Experience working with youth from diverse backgrounds.
- Sensitivity to respond appropriately to the needs of a diverse population.
- Bilingual (Spanish) is highly preferred.
