Under the general direction of the division dean and program chair, the Adjunct Instructor is responsible for teaching American Sign Language (ASL) at various levels, using a range of instructional strategies across classroom, online, hybrid, or lab settings.

• Provide instruction in assigned subject areas, meeting course objectives and utilizing lectures, small group sessions, demonstrations, and computer‑assisted instruction.
• Prepare and administer evaluation instruments; maintain accurate student records on attendance, achievement, and progress; assist in gathering and interpreting data for department assessment.
• Remain current in developments related to ASL through professional development, conferences, workshops, and self‑study.
• Assist in preparing supply and equipment orders, course schedules, book orders, and related reports.
• Promote and support diversity, inclusion, equity, and access by implementing inclusive practices and fostering a respectful learning environment.
• Support the college’s organizational environment goals, enhancing policies, procedures, and communication processes.
• Operate and utilize appropriate instructional technologies (e.g., document camera, projector, interactive smart board).

• Current knowledge and skill to teach ASL.
• Ability to relate positively to colleagues, staff, students, and supervisors from diverse backgrounds.
• Effective communication skills.
• Capability to develop and incorporate varied teaching strategies, including computer applications.
• Ability to devise and utilize appropriate evaluation methods.
• Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

• A master’s degree with at least 18 graduate hours in ASL or Deaf Studies, or a bachelor’s degree with current ASLTA professional‑level certification.
• Teaching experience equivalent to 18 semester hours or 6 courses/sections at secondary or post‑secondary level directly related to instructional responsibilities.

• Experience teaching online and/or hybrid formats.
• Experience using fiber or Life‑Size technology for remote instruction.
• Familiarity with engaged learning practices.

Part‑time temporary position with assignments based on program needs. Open on an as‑needed basis; applicants remain in an open pool until the position is filled.
