Overview
Position located in Washita County Extension Office, Cordell, OK. The role provides leadership to family and consumer sciences (FCS) and supports the 4-H youth development programs, with approximately 50% of time in FCS and 50% in 4-H youth development work. OSU Extension educators serve as the front door to the University, linking OSU with communities across Oklahoma. The mission is to disseminate information and encourage the adoption of research-generated knowledge.
OSU Extension educators deliver research-based information to clients in agriculture, family and consumer sciences, 4-H youth development, and community and rural development. This position requires adherence to all applicable laws and guidelines related to equal opportunity, civil rights, and affirmative action. Relocation may be necessary in the future as staffing needs evolve.
Position DetailsThis position is located in the Washita County Extension Office, Cordell, OK. The incumbent will provide leadership to FCS and support the 4-H youth development programs, dedicating approximately 50% of time to FCS and 50% to 4-H youth development work. The incumbent will participate as a cohesive OSU Extension team member to engage local clientele and advisory groups in planning, implementing, and evaluating the total county program.
The incumbent is expected to maintain cellular or other electronic communication devices due to job requirements. Salary includes compensation to apply toward personal cellular device usage.
Base annual salary for entry-level educators with a bachelor’s degree is $44,000; with a master’s degree, $50,000. Starting salary is based on education and prior relevant work experience. Educators with a bachelor’s degree are encouraged to work toward an approved master’s degree. Continuation of employment depends on need, performance, and available county funding.
Responsibilities- Lead and support the family and consumer sciences (FCS) program and collaborate with 4-H youth development efforts.
- Collaborate with local advisory groups and clientele to plan, implement, and evaluate the county program.
- Maintain professional communication and establish a positive image of OSU Extension internally and externally.
- Adapt to changing priorities and day-to-day demands; manage time and resources effectively.
- Engage in ongoing professional development and build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree in Family and Consumer Sciences, public health, or a related health field. If the candidate does not hold an FCS degree, the following certifications must be obtained within two years of employment (certification expenses not covered by the employer):
No FCS or Education Degree
- Complete two approved education courses (Pedagogy & Classroom Management)
- Within two years, pass APK and FCS OSAT
No FCS Degree, but an Education Degree
- Provide proof of passing PPAT or APK
No FCS Degree, but Alternative Certification in FCS with three years of teaching
- No additional special requirements beyond degree conferred by start date
- Valid driver’s license required. Reliable transportation for travel connected with official duties. Reimbursement for official travel.
- Demonstrated ability to listen, communicate effectively, and present a professional image of OSU Extension.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and day-to-day demands.
- Strong time management, writing, communication, and organizational skills.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with clientele, advisory groups, OHCE members, and other professionals.
- Demonstrated competency in computing and computer-based communications technology.
- Leadership ability in designing, promoting, presenting, and evaluating educational programs for diverse audiences.
- Master’s in Family and Consumer Sciences
- Previous experience in Cooperative Extension or closely related work
