Behavior Coach

The behavior coach supports school site teams by providing coaching, modeling, and evidenced based behavioral and instructional strategies to promote positive student behavior. The behavior coach works under the direct supervision of a certified BCBA and district special education behavior personnel as required to promote student independence. Responsible for helping teams implement behavior and crisis plans related to skill acquisition and behavior reduction.

This position is contingent upon district need and is subject to reassignment. Travel between multiple sites in a day may be required. Inside Edmond Public School District facilities, outdoors during all types of weather and in a variety of educational settings, playgrounds, and buses. Recognize and respond to crisis situations. Use of evidence-based techniques using de-escalation techniques and nonrestrictive interventions.

Maintain regular contact with students, the general public and other EPS personnel. Length of contract: 181 days per school year.

Essential duties and responsibilities include:

• Provide on-going, direct consultation with site special education teams and Special Services staff to ensure IEPs and BIPs are implemented with fidelity.
• Provide advisory and input to site administrators on the evaluation and performance of behavior intervention aides.
• Design, develop, and provide professional development district wide for CA II's and Para II's and other stakeholder groups as needed.
• Provide direct one-on-one and small group support to students with Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) across school settings.
• Implement and provide staff training for plans developed by internal entities and/or outside professionals in the classroom setting, adapting and revising as needed based on the situation.
• Assist with all components of student Behavior Intervention Plans.
• Support classroom teachers to create, maintain, and restore a safe learning environment for all students.
• Identify equipment needed to support students and ensure safety of all students and staff.
• Assist in collecting data and documentation relative to student performance and behavior.
• Model and implement behavior reduction and de-escalation procedures for assigned students.
• Implement crisis/behavior safety procedures according to district guidelines.
• Demonstrate an understanding of prompt hierarchies.
• Work with groups or individuals as instructed by the certified staff.
• Assist with supervision and transitions of children during assemblies, rehearsals and performances of programs during the school day, including lunch and recess times.
• Communicate with the special education teacher of record, all relevant observations and insights regarding the student's program, behavior modifications, and progress of students.
• Maintain required certifications.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualification requirements include:

• BA/BS Degree in Psychology, Behavior Analysis or related field.
• At least one year of successful experience working with children with behavior challenges.
• Valid Oklahoma Teaching Certificate, special education preferred.
• Registered Behavior Technician certificate preferred.
• Working towards ABA or BCBA certification is preferred.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, and to write simple correspondence.
• Ability to effectively communicate in one-on-one and small group situations to patrons, students, and other employees of the school district.
• Ability to perform basic math operations, including figuring percentages, fractions and possibly ratios.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables.
• Ability to use computer and computer related programs and other technologies needed to perform essential job functions.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community.
• Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
• Knowledge of confidentiality laws, CPR, first aid.
• Demonstrate caring and compassionate personality and patience.
• Ability to make responsible judgments for students' safety.
