Position: SEQUOYAH MIDDLE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL

Middle School Principal

Promotes Edmond middle school philosophy and goals. Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school. Maintains a high standard of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary, according to school board policy and student handbook rules. Assumes responsibility for the attendance, conduct, health, and safety of students. Supervises the guidance program to enhance individual student education and development. Establishes and maintains positive relationships with local community groups, parent organizations, and individuals to foster understanding.

Responsible for the selection and supervision of staff members. Evaluates and counsels staff members regarding their individual performance, in accordance with board policy, negotiated agreement, and state law. Interprets and enforces district personnel policies and regulations. Conducts meetings of the staff as necessary for the proper functioning of the school. Leads in the development and evaluation of an appropriate instructional program.

Initiates, designs, and implements programs to meet specific needs to the school. Prepares and supervises the implementation of the master teaching schedule and approves any special assignment. Supervises and evaluates the school's co-curricular program. Assumes responsibility for the safety and administration of the school plant, including emergency preparedness. Prepares and administers the school budget and supervises school finances. Provides for adequate inventories of property and provides for the security and accountability of that property.

Supervises the maintenance of all required records and reports. Assumes responsibility for all official school correspondence. Keeps the superintendent's office informed of the school activities and problems by participating in administrators' meetings and such other meetings as appropriate. Cooperates with college and university staff regarding teacher training and preparation. Acts as liaison for the school with local law enforcement and public agencies.

Cooperates with local media representatives. Plans and participates in the inservice and staff development program. Other duties as may be assigned.

Length of

Contract:

Two hundred forty (240) contract days.

Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated by the in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policies and state law.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Manages employees in the middle school. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Edmond Public School's policies and applicable laws and procedures. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing job tasks; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualification Requirements:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and/or

Experience:

Masters Degree. Must have current Assistant Principal or Principal experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Valid teaching certificate and valid elementary or secondary administrator's certificate.

Language

Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, staff, parents, and the general public.

Mathematical

Skills:

Ability to plan budgets and use the mathematical skills required to do so. Maintain accurate records and support documentation for projects under the supervision of the position.

Reasonable Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Other

Skills and Abilities:

Ability to use computer and computer related programs and other technologies needed to perform essential job functions. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community. Ability to organize and chair or facilitate committees and meetings. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.

Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
