Adjunct Instructor, Prison Education Program - Theatre - ) - PTT
Under the general direction and supervision of the Associate Dean and the Program Chair, the Adjunct Instructor is responsible for instructing students in various theatre classes. Instructors will teach on-site at a correctional facility. This part‑time temporary position is part of a pooled adjunct faculty posting for the 2026–2027 academic year.
Essential Functions- Provide instruction to students according to the objectives of each course assigned.
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies in the classroom, online, hybrid, or lab setting that are appropriate to individual student needs and may include, but are not limited to, lectures, small groups, demonstrations, and computer‑assisted instruction.
- Prepare and administer evaluation instruments and maintain accurate student records on attendance, achievement, and progress.
- Assist in gathering and interpreting data for department assessment.
- Support and promote an environment of belonging where all students, faculty members, and college employees feel welcomed, valued, and empowered to contribute.
- Operate and utilize appropriate technologies as part of the teaching process.
- Perform other College functions and duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
- Current knowledge of and ability/skill to teach theatre.
- Ability to relate to colleagues, staff, students, and supervisors of diverse backgrounds in a positive and cooperative manner.
- Ability to develop and incorporate a variety of teaching strategies and techniques in the classroom, including computer applications.
- Ability to devise and utilize appropriate evaluation methods for classroom use.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing, in person, and on the phone.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds for short distances and move tables, chairs, and media equipment when necessary.
- Demonstrate the ability to perform essential functions or provide reasonable accommodation.
- Master’s Degree with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in theatre.
- Or Bachelor’s degree in Theatre plus a minimum of 6 graduate credits in Theatre AND an approved plan to complete a Master’s degree within 2 years that includes 18 graduate credits in the subject area.
- Master’s degree with graduate hours needed in hand.
- Experience teaching online and/or hybrid formats.
- Experience teaching in carceral spaces.
- Experience using digital conferences or distance learning technology to teach classes remotely.
- Familiarity with Engaged Learning practices.
- Graduate coursework directly related to courses that will be taught.
Salary TBD.
- Part‑time temporary employees are eligible to participate in the TIAA retirement plan through a Roth, SRA, or 457(B) account, with no match provided by the College.
