At Bloomfield, creativity meets confidence! We're an arts and crafts studio where kids, teens, and adults learn hands‑on skills that inspire imagination and build lifelong confidence. From painting to sewing, we provide a warm, engaging space for learning through making.
Position OverviewWe're seeking a supportive and reliable Assistant Sewing Instructor to work alongside our Lead Sewing Instructor in classes for both kids (ages 9+) and adults. You'll help bring our lesson plans to life, support students one‑on‑one, and keep the classroom running smoothly — all while helping every student feel confident and set up for success.
This is a great fit for someone who enjoys sewing, loves working with people of all ages, and thrives supporting a team rather than leading solo.
ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assist the Lead Instructor in sewing classes for both kids and adults, using Bloomfield's established lesson plans
- Maintain thorough knowledge of all lesson plans so you're able to confidently support students
- Work hand‑in‑hand with the Lead Instructor, following their guidance on classroom management
- Help set new students up for success — teaching foundational hand‑sewing skills and classroom safety
- Guide students through the foundations of sewing
- Foster a positive, encouraging environment for every student
- Communicate with parents about student progress and class updates
- Keep the sewing room clean, organized, and safe for everyone
- Collaborate closely with other team members to ensure smooth class operations
- Help prepare students for the studio's Triannual Showcase, supporting skill‑building throughout the session toward their showcase piece
- Basic to intermediate hand sewing and machine sewing skills
- Comfortable working with kids (ages 9+) and adults
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Patience, reliability, and a team‑first mindset
- Previous teaching, assisting, or studio experience a plus, but not required
- Weekday evenings
- Saturdays: full‑day availability (morning through evening)
- Average of 10–20 hours per week, or as needed based on class schedules and enrollment
$12–$13 per hour, based on experience
