About Bloomfield Arts & Crafts Studio

At Bloomfield, creativity meets confidence! We're an arts and crafts studio where kids, teens, and adults learn hands‑on skills that inspire imagination and build lifelong confidence. From painting to sewing, we provide a warm, engaging space for learning through making.

Position Overview

We're seeking a supportive and reliable Assistant Sewing Instructor to work alongside our Lead Sewing Instructor in classes for both kids (ages 9+) and adults. You'll help bring our lesson plans to life, support students one‑on‑one, and keep the classroom running smoothly — all while helping every student feel confident and set up for success.

This is a great fit for someone who enjoys sewing, loves working with people of all ages, and thrives supporting a team rather than leading solo.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist the Lead Instructor in sewing classes for both kids and adults, using Bloomfield's established lesson plans
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of all lesson plans so you're able to confidently support students
  • Work hand‑in‑hand with the Lead Instructor, following their guidance on classroom management
  • Help set new students up for success — teaching foundational hand‑sewing skills and classroom safety
  • Guide students through the foundations of sewing
  • Foster a positive, encouraging environment for every student
  • Communicate with parents about student progress and class updates
  • Keep the sewing room clean, organized, and safe for everyone
  • Collaborate closely with other team members to ensure smooth class operations
  • Help prepare students for the studio's Triannual Showcase, supporting skill‑building throughout the session toward their showcase piece
Qualifications
  • Basic to intermediate hand sewing and machine sewing skills
  • Comfortable working with kids (ages 9+) and adults
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patience, reliability, and a team‑first mindset
  • Previous teaching, assisting, or studio experience a plus, but not required
Schedule
  • Weekday evenings
  • Saturdays: full‑day availability (morning through evening)
  • Average of 10–20 hours per week, or as needed based on class schedules and enrollment
Compensation

$12–$13 per hour, based on experience

Our Core Values

Our work is grounded in five core values that shape our culture and guide our team every day:

Collaborative Spirit — We work together as a team, showing up for each other and for our students so nobody's carrying the studio alone.

Safety — We prioritize a clean, secure, and healthy environment where every student feels safe to try, mess up, and try again.

Respect — We treat students, parents, and staff with respect and professionalism, in every interaction, every time.

Reliability — We show up when we say we will. Dependability and consistency are how our families come to trust us.

Creativity — We think within and outside the box, and we inspire each other to do the same — because creativity is contagious.

Hiring Process

We believe in a thoughtful hiring process that's fair to both you and our studio. Here's what to expect:

  • ApplicationSubmit your resume and a short cover letter.
  • Initial Conversation — Selected candidates will be invited to chat about their experience and fit with our studio's values.
  • Skill Check‑In — A brief, informal sewing demonstration or portfolio review.
  • References — We'll reach out to references to learn more about your work and how you show up on a team.
  • Offer — A job offer is extended to the successful candidate.
  • We value your time throughout the process and aim to communicate promptly at every step.
