Job Goal:
To use leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills so as to promote the educational development of individuals as directed by the principal.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities:
- Promotes middle school philosophy and goals
- Assists in the maintenance of high standards of student conduct and carries out discipline responses as necessary, according to school board policy and student handbook rules.
- Monitors the attendance, conduct, health, and safety of students.
- Maintains positive relationships with students and families.
- Makes arrangements for special conferences for students, families, and teachers.
- Assists in the supervision of staff members.
- Interprets and enforces district personnel policies and regulations.
- Assists in the professional development and training of staff members.
- Assists in the maintenance of an effective learning climate in the school.
- Assists the principal in the supervision of extra-curricular activities as needed.
- Assists the principal in the supervision of the daily use of the school facilities.
- Assumes responsibility for the safety and administration of the school building.
- Assists in the maintenance of the inventory of school property.
- Assists in the maintenance of all required records and reports.
- Prepares school reports as directed by the principal.
- Assists the principal in planning and supervising an emergency preparedness program for the school.
- Assumes responsibility for school correspondence as directed by the principal.
- Serves on school committees and counsels as directed by the principal.
- Participates in administrators' meetings and such other meetings as are requested or appropriate.
- Works with various members of the central administrative staff on district level issues.
- Establishes and maintains positive relationships with local community groups and individuals to foster understanding.
- Acts as liaison for the school with various law enforcement and public agencies as directed by the principal.
- Assists in the development of school bulletins, handbooks, and newsletters.
- Assumes responsibility for one's own professional growth by attending professional meetings and by reading professional journals and other publications.
- Participates in the district's inservice and professional development.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Qualification Requirements:
- Masters Degree.
- Five years experience as a classroom teacher preferred.
- Previous experience in a leadership position at the district/state level preferred.
- Valid teaching certificate and valid elementary or secondary administrator certificate.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, staff, parents, and the general public.
- Ability to plan budgets and use the mathematical skills required to do so.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to use computer and computer related programs and other technologies needed to perform essential job functions.
- Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community.
- Ability to organize and chair or facilitate committees and meetings.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
Physical Demands:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and talk or hear.
- The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.
Work Environment:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works inside, but will need to supervise outside duty and recess.
- The noise level in the work environment is quiet to loud depending upon the activity in the particular part of the day and location.
- Employees must be able to work in high-stress, fast-paced environment.
