The Department of Art at the University of Central Oklahoma, a NASAD-accredited institution, invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track Assistant Professor of Drawing/Printmaking, beginning August 2027.College and Department Overview:

Within the college, the Department of Art prepares students for careers in the visual arts through rigorous programs in studio art and art education.

Position Overview:

The Department of Art seeks a candidate with a strong studio practice and teaching experience in drawing and printmaking. The ideal candidate approaches these disciplines from a contemporary perspective while emphasizing formal, technical, and conceptual development. The successful candidate will teach drawing and printmaking courses at all levels, advise and mentor students, and guide senior students through their capstone projects.

Additional responsibilities include coordinating the drawing area, supervising adjunct faculty, contributing to curriculum development for the drawing and printmaking emphasis, and supporting student recruitment and retention. Faculty members are expected to engage in teaching, scholarly and creative activities, and service in accordance with the UCO Faculty Handbook, while advancing the missions and long-term goals of the department, college, and university.

Job Responsibilities:

Teach three studio courses per semester across all levels of drawing and printmaking, as well as foundational-level art and a capstone course as needed.

Coordinate the drawing area and supervise adjunct faculty in drawing and printmaking.

Create a studio environment that fosters innovation, experimentation, and critical thinking, and develop a curriculum that integrates a variety of techniques, materials, and conceptual approaches.

Foster an innovative and welcoming studio environment.

Maintain an active exhibition and scholarly record.

Contribute to department, college, university, and community service, including student recruitment and retention.

Required Qualifications:

MFA in Studio Art with an emphasis in drawing and printmaking.

Minimum of two years of college-level teaching experience beyond graduate school.

Strong knowledge of contemporary and historical issues in drawing and printmaking.

Demonstrated professional studio practice with an active exhibition and scholarly record.

Preferred Qualifications:

Successful record of community engagement with students.

Experience managing combined classes with different course levels is preferred.

Experience managing drawing and printmaking studio.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Experience teaching with learning management systems (e.g., D2L, Microsoft Teams, Zoom) and Adobe Suite is a plus.
