Modern Languages, Spanish & Language Education Non-Tenure Track Assistant Professor

The Department of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultural Studies at the University of Central Oklahoma invites applications for a non-tenure track assistant professor in Spanish and Language Education to begin August 2027. This position is renewable and eligible for promotion.

The successful candidate will engage in teaching, service, and scholarly and/or creative activities as defined in the UCO Employee and Faculty Handbook. Teaching responsibilities include Spanish language courses, Spanish and Latin American culture, civilization, and literatures classes, and Methods of Teaching Foreign Language. As the language education specialist, the successful candidate will supervise teacher education candidates during student teaching, advise students on the Oral Proficiency Interview, support language club activities and events, participate in OFLTA (Oklahomans for World Language Teaching Association), and prepare accreditation reports as requested. Full-time faculty are expected to work in a collaborative manner with colleagues and professional peers; participate in university meetings that relate specifically to faculty;

serve on department, college, and university committees as requested; and maintain department and student records in accordance with university policies.

The Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultural Studies promotes the study and teaching of second languages and the study of the literatures and cultures produced by the peoples of those languages. In addition to major programs in French, German, and Spanish and a Minor in Japanese, the department offers courses in Chinese, Korean, Arabic Latin, and Biblical Greek. The department supports the training of future language teachers and fosters the learning of Spanish in various settings (common education, non-traditional learning, and higher education).

The successful candidate will be expected to teach 24 credit hours (usually a 4:3 load) that includes elementary-level language courses, Methods of Teaching Foreign Languages, and upper-level courses in language, literature, and cultural studies that complement instructor expertise and departmental need. Duties include teaching day/evening courses in a face-to-face format, teaching online courses as needed, and supervising student teacher candidates. Other duties include engaging in service at the department, college, and university levels;

and maintaining an active program of research, scholarly, and/or creative activity.

• Teaching and departmental/school and university service is expected.
• An earned Ph.D. in Spanish or related field is required by time of appointment.
• Teaching experience in a K-12 setting is required for this position (preference given to applicants with at least 3 years of K-12 experience)
