Overview
The Controller serves as a key member of the executive leadership team, responsible for overseeing all financial operations of the organization, including financial planning, regulatory reporting, asset/liability management, and risk oversight. The Controller partners closely with executive leadership and the Board to establish and execute strategic initiatives that drive profitability while ensuring financial stability, regulatory compliance, and long‑term growth.
Responsibilities- Lead financial planning efforts, including budgeting, forecasting, and capital planning to support organizational growth.
- Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with overall business objectives.
- Oversee the preparation and accuracy of financial statements, tax filings, and regulatory reports.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor balance sheet performance, including liquidity, interest rate risk, and capital structure.
- Support and contribute to asset/liability management processes and commitments.
- Evaluate financial exposures and implement strategies to mitigate risk.
- Provide insight into investment and liability structures to support sound financial decision‑making.
- Lead and develop the finance and accounting team, including oversight of key functional leads.
- Establish strong internal controls and promote a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for auditors, regulators, and key external stakeholders.
- Partner with executive leadership and the Board to provide financial insights and recommendations.
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. - Certifications:
CPA or CFA designation preferred. - Experience:
7–10+ years of progressive experience in banking, finance, or accounting; prior experience within a community banking environment is strongly preferred; public accounting experience with exposure to financial institution audits is also considered. - Technical Knowledge:
Strong understanding of banking regulations, financial reporting standards, and regulatory filings; advanced analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making capabilities. - Communication & Leadership:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to influence at the executive level. - Technical Proficiency:
Proficiency with financial systems and Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel.
Reports directly to executive leadership and oversees finance and accounting functions, including leadership of key team members and related departments.
