Position Overview and Job Duties
Under the general direction of the Director of Media Services for the Office of Information Technology, the Multimedia Specialist I provides enterprise-level multimedia service delivery and supports the University’s streaming, multimedia content, video conferencing, web conferencing, integrated applications, and event management services. The role collaborates across technology teams and business units with excellent communication, diplomacy, and a positive attitude, and performs duties in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of the University of Central Oklahoma.
- Provide support for AV technology users across the campus, including faculty, staff, students, and external guests.
- Manage operations and circulation of multimedia equipment (mobile presentation laptops, projectors, microphones, public address systems, video cameras, lighting systems, etc.).
- Create, manage, and administer streaming content, multimedia content, webcasts, lecture capture, video and web conferences, and set up and troubleshoot these tools for academic and non‑academic groups.
- Support the university’s campus digital signage system.
- Provide Tier I and II technical support and assistance to instructors, students, and guests using multimedia equipment.
- Troubleshoot problems and perform minor repairs and routine maintenance on multimedia equipment.
- Arrange vendor services as needed and ensure accurate and timely set‑up, operation, and breakdown of intermediate audiovisual equipment for events.
- Account for inventory of A/V and IT equipment before and after each event.
- Handle equipment challenges and changes promptly and professionally while maintaining a customer‑service attitude.
- Document operational procedures, support documents, and diagrams; publish client‑facing support materials to improve user experience.
- Research and communicate new features of assigned applications and expand platform adoption.
- Continuously update skills and knowledge related to the position and industry trends.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree plus at least one year of experience in operation and setup of various types of multimedia equipment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience performing minor equipment repairs, inventory management, and maintenance.
- Degree specialization in mass media, public communications production, or another relevant discipline; or equivalent technical certifications and experience.
- Experience in a higher education environment.
- Knowledge of industry‑standard applications (audio and video editing tools, studio controls, audio systems, digital camera technology).
- Knowledge of media services operation, resource management, and technology.
- Proficiency in designing and producing multimedia objects and applications.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work well under pressure, handle multiple tasks, and balance competing objectives.
- Effective communication of technical concepts to non‑technical users.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including authoring procedures, knowledge‑base articles, and proposals.

- Willingness to work on a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and on‑call 24x7x365 as needed, maintain high‑speed internet access, and keep a smartphone for OIT communication.
