Position: Machine Operator / Packer

Overview

Primary Function:
The Machine Tender/Packer is a general utility person for the manufacturer of blown film plastic including line start-ups, winder operation and adjustment, packaging and palletizing of finished product.

Responsibilities
  • Operate extrusion equipment ensuring product meets order and quality specifications
  • Perform quality checks in accordance with order requirements using a micrometer and tape measure
  • Perform basic adjustments to line speed and winder settings to ensure good quality products based on Customer specifications found on Traveler (work order)
  • Weigh and accurately record all product on Travelers report / continuation sheets
  • Package product per routing notes and any other order instructions checking accuracy of labels and adherence to product guidelines
  • Continuous cleaning of work area as needed and removal of any debris or obstructions
  • Check equipment and work area for potential safety hazards and report those to the shift Supervisor
  • Follow all safety and BRC guidelines as instructed and report any non-conformities to the shift supervisor for correction
  • Job duties may change as directed by supervisor

  • Authorized to stop work when a perceived unsafe condition or behavior may result in an unwanted event
  • Participates in the company’s EHS policy, goals, and objectives
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, order forms, travelers and checklists
  • Speak effectively with Managers, co-workers or before groups of co-workers, Supervisors or others within the company
  • Perform duties in a safe manner and report observed safety hazards
  • Mandatory participation in safety programs and training
  • Attend meetings as scheduled
  • Wear mandatory assigned Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Able to operate a pallet jack
  • Be a team player with a positive attitude and work well with others
  • Able to climb towers to thread up lines
  • Possess good written and verbal communication skills
  • Understand the importance of safety, quality, housekeeping and teamwork
  • Dependable and flexible when work is required in other facets of production
  • Ask questions to prevent errors or seek clarification
  • Work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment
Essential

Physical Requirements
  • Walking and standing for up to 100% of the workday to operate machines and package finished product
  • Occasionally sitting to prepare reports and use computer equipment
  • Ability to assist with set-ups and mechanical repairs
  • Reaching, bending, and twisting for up to 75% of the workday
  • Climbing, kneeling, squatting or crawling as required
  • Communicating verbally and hearing others for the full workday
  • Using arms to grasp, handle and operate equipment for up to 75% of the workday
  • Ability to exert varying amounts of force as part of job duties
Special Skills
  • Possess basic math skills
  • Able to read tape measure or ruler for quality checks and transfer to documents
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic in all units of measure
  • Able to read a weight scale and transfer to documents
  • Good judgment, planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions
  • Must be able to obtain forklift certification
