Job Description Basic Purpose

The position is assigned responsibilities under the supervision of the Deputy Executive Director which involves activities related to the regulation of prelicensure nursing education. This includes responsibility for interacting with other city, state and federal agencies, and other entities, and providing education related to the Oklahoma Nursing Practice Act and other state and federal laws concerning nursing education.

Typical Functions
  • Provides written and verbal information and education on the Oklahoma Nursing Practice Act (ONPA) and its Rules to: prelicensure nursing education programs; nursing education deans, directors, chairs, coordinators and staff; applicants; licensees; employers; students; and the public as it relates to prelicensure nursing education program requirements.
  • Evaluates and consults with prelicensure nursing education programs (Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, Registered Nurse, and Licensed Practical Nurse) and Advanced Unlicensed Assistive Personnel training programs to ensure compliance with the statutes and rules relating to nursing education and Advanced Unlicensed Assistive Personnel training in the State of Oklahoma.
  • Conducts surveys and reviews national nursing accreditation reports of nursing education programs in accordance with the Rules, Board policies, or specific requests of the Board and prepares reports to the Board based on findings. Coordinates with nursing education programs follow-up and interim reports as defined in law or requested by the Board.
  • Collects and analyzes data related to nursing education issues to identify trends and future needs. Provides reports to the Deputy Executive Director as scheduled. Responds to surveys related to prelicensure nursing education.
  • Participates in the strategic planning process and annual evaluation of the division as requested by the Deputy Executive Director.
  • Studies proposed state legislation and rules pertaining to nursing education as requested and provides reports to the Deputy Executive Director regarding possible effects on nursing regulation.
  • Reviews and proposes changes to Board policies and guidelines annually as requested by the Deputy Executive Director.
  • Participates in relevant Board advisory committee meetings as requested by the Deputy Executive Director.
  • Acts as a liaison with other state agencies and other entities as appropriate.
  • Works collaboratively with other professional staff members to coordinate and perform regulatory functions of the agency.
  • Participates in and prepares reports relating to workshops, conferences, and other meetings attended as delegated by the Deputy Executive Director.
  • Interfaces with stakeholders through participation in local, state, regional and national meetings related to nursing education and the regulation of nursing practice.
  • Conveys a positive and professional image for the Agency in interaction with applicants, licensees, other state agencies and co-workers.
  • Manages a safety education program within the agency.
  • Represents the Oklahoma Board of Nursing as directed.
  • Performs other activities delegated by the Deputy Executive Director.
