Position Summary
The Quality Control Specialist assists in insuring all activities assumed by the laboratory are conducted in a safe, efficient, organized, and productive manner while providing needed technical support to the Production, Sales, and Exploration teams.
Start DateNew Hire Orientation & Safety Training are held only twice a month in the Bridgeport, TX training room. Be prepared for travel and overnight accommodation up to 1‑3 days. Accommodations & reimbursements are covered for travel more than 50 miles.
Responsibilities- Perform laboratory testing with the goal of achieving high productivity while ensuring the integrity of results for District and Division projects.
- Maintain Martin Marietta’s safety culture, demonstrate a positive attitude, teamwork, and a results‑oriented mindset.
- Log in, test, and report materials from operations, rail terminals, and exploration promptly.
- Assist District and SW Division plants in quality control and quality issues as needed.
- Support training of new plant‑level QC technicians in daily QC activities with a goal of superior quality.
- Help all District production plants optimize production without sacrificing quality.
- Provide training and support to sales and production teams, including QC submittals to customers.
- Travel to District plants and rail terminals to sample aggregates, ensuring quality products are met and resolving non‑standard products.
- Sample materials at customer job sites to confirm quality delivery.
- Respond to customer complaints promptly, resolving defective materials while considering monetary impact.
- Aid Martin Marietta customers professionally and develop strong working relationships with all teams.
- Maintain good housekeeping in the laboratory and surrounding area.
- Use proper sampling and testing techniques with appropriate equipment.
- Perform other duties as required.
- At least three (3) years of experience in aggregate quality testing.
- Knowledge of relevant industry specifications and testing procedures (e.g., ACI, ASTM, ODOT, TxDOT, NTCOG).
- Self‑starter with the ability to work under limited supervision.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Professional communication with employees, sales personnel, managers, and customers at all levels.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and internet research.
- Physical ability to lift and perform laboratory and field testing activities.
- Willingness to travel long distances by car or other means, including overnight stays on short notice.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions.
- Ability to stoop, crawl, reach, bend, kneel, and walk up to 200 yards over rough or uneven terrain.
- Network to work a flexible schedule, including potential overtime and weekends.
