Description

We are seeking a highly motivated, PhD-level scientist to serve as a Research Scientist at the the Laboratories of Molecular Anthropology and Microbiome Research. This role is ideal for a researcher who enjoys balancing hands-on experimental work with data analysis, academic writing, and mentoring trainees, and who thrives in a collaborative, research environment.

The Laboratories of Molecular Anthropology and Microbiome Research (LMAMR- lmamr.org ) represent an interdisciplinary partnership that seeks to understand biocultural, ecological and evolutionary dimensions of life. We study biomolecules retrieved from the following: extant, forensic, historical, archaeological, and environmental materials, with special attention to humans and human-associated organisms including commensals and pathogens. Our mission includes innovation in research and commitment to training in molecular and systems biology approaches, with a collaborative effort towards conservation, cultural respect, community engagement and outreach, both regional and international.

Duties:

  • Collaborate with PIs and project technicians on study design and data generation.
  • Conduct bioinformatic analyses on ancient and modern genomic datasets
  • Write manuscripts in support of the LMAMR projects
  • Mentor undergraduate, graduate and visiting students
  • Work closely with the PIs and project stakeholders on collaborative activities with tribal communities and resource managers
  • Contribute to the LMAMR community
  • Co-write grants for additional funding and support
  • Participate in science communication endeavors
  • Travel for project meetings/sample collection as needed
Qualifications

Education:

Requir ed Ph.D in Life Sciences or Computer Science (preferably Genomics, Evolutionary Biology, Computational Biology and/or Conservation Biology)
** or Anthropology with genomics experience

Skills:
  • * Strong background in population genetics and bioinformatics
  • * Experience analyzing whole genome datasets
  • * Experience with ancient DNA or degraded DNA (not required but useful)
