Gift Shop Attendant

Job Type: Regular

Compensation: $37,451.00 per year. Benefits include a percentage of matching contributions to retirement plans, 11 holidays, a minimum of 15 days of annual and sick leave, and a health insurance allowance for employees and eligible dependents.

Basic Purpose

This position is responsible for the daily operations of the museum’s gift shop.

Essential Functions Sales
  • Assist customers with item selection and locating specific items in the store.
  • Process sales in the POS system, including cash handling and credit card processing.
  • Process online order sales and take orders over the phone.
  • Pack and ship orders sold online, by phone, or in store as needed.
  • Process phone or in‑person ticket sales.
  • Help patrons with membership sales and renewals by processing transactions.
  • Process product returns or exchanges.
  • Calculate sales, totals, and taxes when the POS system is offline.
  • Process admissions fees, provide patrons with admission stickers, maps, and an overview of museum features.
Inventory
  • Perform an inventory count of selected vendors each month.
  • Cross‑check inventory counts.
  • Organize inventory in basement storage and museum store back room as needed.
  • Ensure all products are available on the sales floor.
  • Identify expired or damaged inventory, complete associated paperwork, and remove items from inventory.
  • Receive and process inventory deliveries, including pricing and marking all items.
  • Move inventory as needed and implement markdowns of merchandise as authorized by museum leadership.
  • Ensure all information in the POS system is correct for each item.
  • Add relevant items to the museum online store and notify supervisor when items are low in stock.
  • Create displays of inventory.
Communication
  • Notify supervisor about visitor complaints, requests, or suggestions.
  • Notify supervisor when maintenance or cleaning is needed.
  • Provide patrons with general information about the museum, the area, and the state.
  • Answer general OKNG Museum phone calls and direct them to the appropriate person.
  • Answer museum store phone calls, provide information, and conduct sales.
  • Takes messages for supervisor.
Promotion
  • Keep all OKNG Museum/Tourism information stocked.
  • Promote OKNG Museum programs and services to patrons.
  • Promote Made in Oklahoma products and product lines.
Other
  • Ensure store is clean by performing light cleaning duties (dusting, sweeping, cleaning fingerprints as needed).
  • Keep store supplies stocked and alert supervisor when supplies are low.
  • Complete inventory control sheets when inventory is provided to other divisions (approved by museum director or agency director).
  • Advise supervisor about any unusual circumstances, policy violations, or safety concerns in any areas of the museum.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of public contact procedures, telephone procedures, spelling, punctuation and grammar, arithmetic, and related program or service laws and rules. Skill to operate various office equipment including computers. Ability to work with customers, gather data and facts, keep records, communicate effectively in writing and orally, and provide leadership on assigned projects or teams.

Education and Experience Requirements

One year of experience in sales, public contact work, handling and processing mail, or general office clerical work plus one additional year of experience in customer service, mail room operations or technical clerical work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Requirements
  • Able to work at a computer for long periods of time.
  • Able to lift or carry a minimum of 40 pounds.
Conditions of Employment
  • Contingent on a favorable NCIC/OSBI background check.
  • Contingent on passing a pre‑employment drug and alcohol screening.
  • Must hold a T1 Security Clearance (eligibility for national security positions granted only to U.S. citizens).
  • FLSA Non‑Exempt status.
  • Must maintain a valid Oklahoma driver’s license.
  • Serves a 12‑month probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.

The position is located at the Oklahoma National Guard Museum, 3301 NE Grand Blvd, Oklahoma City, OK.
