Position: Technician, Facility Services, HVAC-Refrigeration - $8,000 SIGN ON - Journeyman Required

Position Overview

Installs, configures, and calibrates HVAC and refrigeration systems, including ductwork, control panels, low ambient systems, and direct digital controls to meet operational specifications. Interprets layout plans and schematics to ensure accurate system setup and compliance with building codes. Diagnoses and resolves mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant-related issues across commercial and industrial systems. Implements preventive maintenance programs to extend equipment life and minimize downtime.

Maintains and repairs rack systems, walk‑ins, reach‑ins, and supermarket refrigeration units. Performs routine checks and coordinates necessary maintenance or repairs of HVAC and Energy Management Systems. Uses heavy machinery safely and adheres to OSHA and EPA 608 refrigerant handling protocols.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead field teams and mentor less‑experienced technicians and apprentices on technical procedures and safety practices.
  • Communicate effectively with customers to explain technical issues and service outcomes.
  • Manage escalated service issues and coordinate with external service providers as needed.
  • Drive a company vehicle to complete service calls, manage operational needs within the assigned region, and maintain vehicle in accordance with company policies.
  • Participate in an on‑call rotation to support business‑critical needs outside of standard business hours.
  • Coordinate service calls and manage workload using digital tools and scheduling systems.
  • Track refrigerant levels, parts inventory, and vendor relationships to ensure resource availability.
  • Submit warranty claims, expense reports, and work orders to support financial sustainability.
  • Assist in implementing training plans and operational procedures as directed by managers and training technicians.
  • Maintain and promote company policies, procedures and standards of ethics and integrity.
Required Qualifications
  • Option1:
    Vocational or technical HVAC/R certification plus 2years of experience in mechanical maintenance or construction‑related field for commercial HVAC/R and building controls.
  • Option2: 4years of experience in mechanical maintenance or construction‑related field for commercial HVAC/R and building controls or related field.
  • Hold and maintain TypeI and TypeII or Universal Environmental Protection Agency certification for refrigerant handling. Where required, HVAC‑R/Mechanical Journeyman license.
  • Valid state‑issued driver’s license and ability to pass motor vehicle report.
  • Ability to read and speak English as required by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Commercial driving record with no convictions for DUI, DWI, or OUI within the last five years.
  • Commercial driving record with no more than two moving violations in the last three years.
  • Completion of a 2‑year vocational or technical HVAC/R program.
  • Experience using word processing, spreadsheet, email, and presentation software.
  • Mechanical license in the city and/or state where the job is located.
  • No preventable accidents while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three years.
  • No serious traffic violations in the last three years.
  • Prior work experience reading blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Prior work experience using hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.
